Chapter 358
“So, you mean—” Eileen hesitated, unsure of Ruby’s intention.
“I’ll keep an eye on her. She’s been looking at houses recently and might move in with Huey soon. I’ll stay with them for a couple of days to get to know Huey better. I know you’re swamped right now and need to hire help, so I’ll only stay for two or three days. Any longer might be too much for them.”
Given Bailee and Huey’s newlywed status, Ruby was cautious not to overstep.
“I can handle things here. If that’s your decision, let’s proceed with it,” Eileen supported Ruby’s plan to assess Bailee and Huey’s relationship firsthand.
Ruby then made her way upstairs to speak with Bailee. As the sun dipped toward the horizon, Huey arrived to pick them up.
Upon spotting Eileen, he cheerfully greeted her. “Hi, Eileen.”
“Hi,” Eileen replied, watching Bailee and Ruby descend the stairs with their suitcases. She turned to Huey. “Aren’t you going to help?”
It was only then that Huey realized his oversight. He hurried to assist with the luggage.
Bailee carried more bags, indicating a longer stay, while Ruby had just a small bag for her brief visit.
Eileen, holding Gabriela, stood beside Milford at the apartment doorway, watching as Huey’s car disappeared down the street.
Milford broke the ensuing silence. “So, Eileen, it’s just us now.”
“Yes,” she replied, her gaze falling on Gabriela. “I’m not good at cooking. How have your culinary attempts been going lately?” she inquired, feeling the onset of a headache.

Milford let out a resigned sigh.
It appeared that the culinary responsibilities would fall to him now that Ruby was gone.
The mere thought of this was enough to give him a pounding headache.
“Leave it to me,” he declared. With a determined turn, he strode into the kitchen to whip up some pasta.
After sampling a few forkfuls, Eileen commented, “To be honest, this doesn’t taste good. You really need to put more effort into it.”
Pleasing Eileen was a monumental task. In that moment, it struck Milford that it had always been Bryan who had managed to cater to her culinary preferences.
To make matters worse, Bryan was probably anticipating a report from him now that Ruby was away!
Milford decisively sent a message to Bryan, informing him that Ruby would be away for a few days.
