“No, thank you,” Huey replied, taking the phone back from her and staying by the ICU doors, waiting.
Unbeknownst to him, Bailee had just ended the call and was now sobbing at her desk after Jillian had left.
The previous encounters between Christos and Eileen had been by chance. However, this time, Christos was deliberately waiting for Eileen outside the Freguson Group’s building.
As soon as Christos saw Eileen’s car, he dashed toward it, desperate to stop her.
Left with no other option, Eileen stopped the car and rolled down her window, asking, “Why are you here?”
“Eileen, I had Travis steal what you needed!” Christos raised his eyebrows with pride. “And I have some extra information that will interest you.”
“Really?” Eileen asked, taken aback. It had only been one night. Could they have gone as far as blowing up Brandon’s house?
Christos pulled a manila envelope from his jacket. “Check this out… But Eileen, I haven’t eaten yet. How about you treat me to breakfast? We can sit down and talk.”
Before Eileen could respond, Christos had already opened the passenger door and hopped in.
Eileen caught a whiff of cologne and instinctively held her breath. “I can treat you to breakfast, but you need to sit in the back.”
“Why?” Christos asked, looking puzzled.
“Because the front passenger seat is reserved for my husband only,” Eileen said firmly, leaving no room for argument.
Christos held her gaze for a few seconds before reluctantly giving in and moving to the backseat.
Eileen drove Christos to a nearby diner, allowing him to place his order while she eagerly examined the contents of the manila envelope.
Inside, she found evidence of Mr. Wright and Mr. Watts fabricating heroic acts for promotions years ago and working with shady characters. The evidence was undeniable.
Eileen was stunned by the revelations, horrified at how some people climbed the corporate ladder using such dirty tactics.
“You’re not trying to trick me with this, are you?” Eileen asked, unsure whether the documents she held were genuine or just a copy.
“Don’t worry. Travis took everything right from his stepfather’s safe. Oh, and by the way, his mother and stepfather keep separate safes. The big secret I mentioned is in his mother’s safe,” Christos explained, casually wiping his mouth with a napkin after finishing a toast, displaying impeccable manners.
After a brief pause, Christos added, “Can you guess what the big secret is?”
Eileen returned the documents to the envelope and shook her head. “I can’t even begin to guess what it might be.”
