Bryan’s expression soured. “You… You really want me to suffer from my desire, huh?”
“Do you want to exhaust me then?” Eileen answered with poise after wiping her mouth. She stood up, patted his shoulder, and added, “Besides, you’ll have your hands full with Gabriela. I wouldn’t want to overburden you.”
With that, she walked into the living room and took Gabriela from Ruby’s arms. “Mom, could you look after Gabriela tomorrow morning? Bryan and I have things to handle. He’ll be back by noon.”
“Okay,” Ruby responded.
A dim light illuminated the empty villa.
Zola sat on the sofa, a few pieces of bread before her.
Clutching the key Milford had left, she pondered whether it meant he wasn’t coming back.
Milford was really something. Zola believed that with Eileen’s support, Milford must be having a great time at school.
Zola looked down at the bread, her frequent meal lately, and felt nauseous just from the smell.
“Milford, I’ll show you that Eileen is nothing! She’ll end up being more pitiful than me!” she muttered.
With a flick, she tossed the key away, grabbed her phone, and dialed a number quickly. “Sir, I’m ready to proceed, but on one condition.”
“You have a condition?” The man on the line sounded both amused. “That’s bold. Go on.”
There was also a woman’s voice coming from the man’s end of the line. Although it was very faint, it was still audible. Since the man didn’t say anything, Zola chose to ignore it.
“I want to see Eileen lose everything. I want the EB Group, the Apex Group, and the Ferguson Group to crumble!” Zola said.
She was confident in the man’s capabilities; the real question was whether he would agree to her condition.
Zola, however, was far too trusting. The man on the other end of the line spoke with irritation. “Fine, but you’ve really dragged this out. I’m losing my patience.”
“Tomorrow!” Zola responded without hesitation. “Tomorrow is the EB Group’s press conference. Both Bryan and Eileen will be there…”
Once the call ended, the man set the phone down, a smirk playing across his face. “I do admire this woman’s spirit. Let’s see how things unfold. If all goes well, I might just give her a hand.”
It was a late autumn day, and the rare warmth of the sun was a delightful surprise. Eileen and Bryan handed Gabriela over to Ruby’s care and set off for the EB Group.
Before they left, Eileen told Ruby, “If Gabriela starts feeling uneasy, you can take her for a walk around the block, but stay close to home.”
Eileen had concerns about Denise showing up again.
