The attending physician had been waiting in his ward.
When the door to the ward opened, Bryan entered slowly with Eileen, drawing several glances.
Josue and Jacob were particularly displeased. The attending doctor and his assistant seemed resigned.
Instantly, Eileen felt a flush of embarrassment, as though she had secretly taken Bryan, the patient, out on a date. She felt the urge to let go of his hand.
Though it was said that Bryan lacked sensation in the tips of his fingers and had little strength, his grip on her was so firm that she couldn’t free her hand.
“What are you staring at?” Bryan shot back, irritated. “It’s only two hours late.”
“That’s not the issue!” Josue retorted, unable to hold back his frustration. “You didn’t respond to our calls or texts. Do you want us to worry ourselves sick?”
Jacob spoke more seriously. “The real issue is your health. How can you be in the mood to go out when you’re still ill? You need to stay in the hospital and focus on your treatment.”
Bryan lifted his sleeve to reveal the back of his hand.
The back of his hand was marked with several needle punctures from the infusions. In just a few days, the marks had accumulated, which was difficult to look at.
“Get your injection now,” Bryan said, reluctantly releasing Eileen’s hand.
Eileen glanced to the side, feeling uneasy under the doctor’s scrutiny. She brushed her hair behind her ear, trying to compose herself.
Before Eileen could do anything more, Jacob and Josue dragged her to the sofa to sit.

“If you’re just going to bring him back here to disrupt his treatment every day, you might as well let him stay in that small village.”
“Previously, when he was in the small village, he received his treatment punctually every day. The only issue was that the blood tests were delayed due to inadequate transportation.”
Josue and Jacob had hoped that Bryan’s return would lead to more effective treatment within a few days.
It seemed that not only was Bryan’s treatment ineffective, but he was also becoming increasingly uncooperative.
After a moment, Eileen replied, “But this was his first time attempting to leave the hospital to find me.” She felt unjustly blamed for the situation.
“He was worried you might visit during the day, which made him anxious. As a result, he kept making excuses to delay getting his intravenous drip,” Jacob explained.
“The moment the doctor said he could get some exercise, he bolted out immediately. Jacob and I were worried, but he wouldn’t let us drive him, fearing we’d interrupt his plans to see you,” Josue added seriously.
Jacob and Josue emphasized that Eileen’s presence had indeed influenced Bryan’s treatment in a significant way.
Eileen glanced at the bed where the doctor was administering the intravenous drip and said seriously, “Mr. Dawson hasn’t had proper rest lately. He’s very weak.”
“You’re the weak one,” Bryan shot back harshly. “I just haven’t gotten used to things here since my return.”
He wouldn’t admit that his sleeplessness came from thinking about Eileen and Gabriela constantly. The once oppressive darkness in his mind had been replaced with a flood of thoughts, keeping him awake.
