She glanced at Leyla, catching the hint of disappointment on her face and chuckled to herself.
“Mom, I thought Eileen might live up to at least half of my prowess; I never expected her to want to sell the mansion,” she said.
Leyla’s eyes dropped, and her slightly furrowed brows mirrored her inner turmoil. Eileen stayed quiet, appearing as though she didn’t care about Gianna’s remarks at all.
In the afternoon, a servant came in to report that there were people at the gate whose car had broken down. They needed to borrow some tools.
Eileen, Gianna, and Leyla were outside enjoying the sunshine after lunch when two polite men showed up. They gave a subtle nod to Eileen before courteously explaining their predicament.
“All our tools are in the garage,” Gianna said, giving Tracey a quick glance. “Can fetch what’s needed from there.”
Just as Tracey was about to head there, she paused, a realization dawning on her. “Ms. Vazquez, I don’t have the key to the garage.”
Gianna, suddenly remembering something, spun around and went back inside. She returned with a hefty ring of keys, each meticulously labeled for its corresponding lock.
Yet, instead of passing the keys to Tracey, Gianna opted to accompany them to retrieve the tools personally.
“My boss isn’t feeling well, and the repairs might take a while. Could he possibly rest here for a bit?” asked the younger man, his tone cautious.

Gianna surveyed the area, her eyes shifting from Eileen and Leyla, who were seated by the stone table. She then glanced at Tracey before nodding in agreement.
“Sure, my mother doesn’t get out much. It might do her good to have someone to talk to.”
The man, who appeared to be in his forties, greeted Eileen and Leyla before he sat down.
With Gianna gone, Eileen turned to Tracey. “Could you bring some coffee and snacks for the guest?”
Tracey hesitated for a moment but then nodded. She headed inside.
As soon as Tracey was out of sight, Eileen leaned in closer and spoke quickly. “Dr. Glyn, could you please check on her?”
Leyla’s eyes widened in surprise when Kenton Glyn turned to her. “Madam, do an examination for her, please.”
“Well…” Hesitating, Leyla turned to Eileen.
“This gentleman is a good friend of mine. He’s a doctor. You’re not well enough to travel to the city hospital, so I brought him here,” Eileen said, gently touching Leyla’s arm.
“Please, let’s do this. We’re short on time.” Leyla’s eyes flickered with emotion, and she complied.
“Madam, you’re somewhat frail, but there’s no serious illness. A bit of rest should do the trick,” Kenton announced after a thorough check. He looked at Leyla’s face and then at her wheelchair, puzzled. “You really shouldn’t be confined to this wheelchair.”
Surprise flickered in Leyla’s bright eyes as she glanced between Kenton and Eileen. Could Kenton’s assessment be wrong, or was there something else?
