“I’m willing to trade shares in the Ferguson Group for information on her whereabouts,” Julio said, his tone now shifting to a more businesslike one.
Hearing this, Eileen firmly decided to support Dalores. “Julio, not everyone is driven by money. I might work for you, but your issues with Dalores are personal. I won’t get involved.”
She neither aided Dalores’ escape nor disclosed her location to Julio; that was all she could do.
After stating her position, Eileen ended the call. Looking at Dalores, who was sweating despite the chilly air, she said, “Julio came here a few days ago. He knows you’re in this city. That’s all I can share.”
“Thank you,” Dalores replied.
Julio’s call had come at the right moment, relieving Eileen of the decision on whether to tell Dalores about his presence here. Eileen put away her phone and advised, “Take care of yourself.”
Dalores suddenly stopped Eileen. “Eileen, we’re friends, aren’t we? I know I might not deserve to call you a friend, but I’m not asking for your help, just some guidance.”
What should she do? How could she evade Julio’s relentless pursuit? With Kinsey, she was merely someone he collaborated with. She doubted whether Kinsey would choose to defend her in front of Julio.
She was aware that Julio was after the baby. Surrendering the child might free her from Julio, but the baby was her entire world. The turmoil was evident on her face, and Eileen understood her dilemma with just a glance.

“As a mother, I understand how hard it is to part with your child. But Julio is fixated on getting the baby. If you want to sever ties with him completely, you need to find a way to make him give up the baby. The specifics of how, though, you’ll need to figure that out yourself,” Eileen said. She found it hard to remain indifferent. She empathized deeply with Dalores as a mother. Without her child, Dalores would be devastated.
Dalores thought for a moment, then nodded. “I understand. Thank you, Eileen.”
“I have to go now. You should head back,” Eileen said. She felt she didn’t deserve Dalores’ gratitude, but at the same time, she felt guilty toward Julio. Caught in the middle, she didn’t know if she had done the right thing.
She returned with Gabriela just as the hotel car arrived. Waiters swiftly disembarked, carrying trays directly to Conroy’s villa. The door opened, but the waiters obstructed Eileen’s view. She couldn’t clearly see the woman inside, but she could just make out that the woman was dressed in a dark red gown with long hair, looking very sexy. Once the waiters had placed the dishes inside, they departed. Eileen took her time walking back home. Two minutes later, her phone suddenly pinged with messages.
She unlocked her phone and saw several photos sent by the hotel manager. She had requested the hotel staff to snap a few pictures of the woman as they entered. The cold quickly numbed her fingers as she handled her phone. She scooped up Gabriela and rushed back to the villa, settling by the heater to examine the photos.
“Damn it!” she muttered, flinging her phone onto the sofa.
Who would wear a face mask in broad daylight, especially an algae mask that covered everything but the eyes and mouth? Eileen couldn’t see the woman’s face at all in the photos. And that meal had cost her a substantial sum!
