Kinsey raised an eyebrow. “Then why does it seem like Mr. Ferguson is troubling you somewhat?”
Dalores tightened her lips, at a loss for words.
Before Julio could interject, Dalores stood up, seized Kinsey’s hand, and headed for the exit.
“I’ve said all I needed to. Let’s head home now.”
After being urged forward a couple of times, Kinsey had no choice but to rise and follow as she briskly ushered him out without bidding Julio farewell.
Exiting the café, Dalores looked back and sighed in relief upon seeing that Julio hadn’t followed them.
However, turning back to Kinsey, she caught a glimpse of his displeasure.
“When did you get a new phone?”
It was only then that Dalores remembered the phone Eileen had given her; it was a gift from a friend.
“When did you make such a close friend here?” Kinsey pressed, taking the phone to scrutinize it. “This phone looks like it’s worth at least twenty or thirty thousand dollars.”
Dalores grew frustrated. She had only concealed her phone for a few days, yet she was exposed now. Would Kinsey confiscate her phone?
Kinsey said, “Dalores, I don’t care about your dealings with Mr. Ferguson. But you must not jeopardize my relationship with him. Moreover, even if there’s nothing between us, we are legally married. I expect you to maintain a distance from other men. Otherwise, I’ll…”

Kinsey was sure he had the upper hand, as he was the only support Dalores had in raising her child.
Dalores knew he was threatening her. She quickly agreed and said, “I understand. I won’t meet with him privately again—”
Before she could finish her words, Kinsey interjected.
“I have to return to the office. You should take a taxi home.” He quickly turned and walked away.
Dalores, accustomed to his abrupt departures, wasn’t upset by him. Instead, she was somewhat relieved that he hadn’t confiscated her phone. Just as she breathed a sigh of relief, Julio’s voice caught her from behind.
“It seems Kinsey is not treating you well at all.” Under normal circumstances, a husband would likely be furious to find his wife secretly meeting another man.
“It’s none of your concern how he treats me. If you want me to sign your documents, sign mine first.” Dalores clung to a sliver of hope. She needed just five more minutes to secure a future free from Julio’s intrusions.
Yet her insistence irritated Julio. He scowled and said, “What makes you think you can negotiate with me? Dalores, unless you sign the documents, I won’t cut ties with you. We’ll see which one of us can afford to waste more time on this.” After making his statement, he handed the documents to her and added, “Think about it. Sign this and give it back to me afterward.”
Dalores was speechless as she watched Julio walk away, hands in his pockets, a surge of frustration igniting within her. How could Julio be so shameless?
