Gabriela jumped up, planting herself in front of Eileen like a tiny warrior. She glared at Bryan and yelled, her voice surprisingly fierce.
Eileen reached out to gently steady Gabriela, whispering, “Honey, Daddy’s being mean to Mommy.”
“Cryv Mammy. I’ll give him a piece of my mind!” Gabriela patted Eileen’s shoulder, her tiny body radiating fierce protectiveness.
Bryan, stung by Gabriela’s words, tried to defend himself.
“Your mom is being unreasonable,” he grumbled.
As soon as the words left Bryan’s mouth, Eileen leaned in and whispered in Gabriela’s ear, “Mommy needs Daddy’s help, but he won’t…”
“Daddy, you should help Mommy!” Gabriela exclaimed.
Eileen quickly thought of something and squeezed out a few tears. “It’s okay if Daddy doesn’t want to help. I’ll figure it out myself. And if it gets too hard… I’ll just cry.”
Seeing her mother’s tears, Gabriela became anxious.
“Mummy, don’t cry! Daddy will help you, right, Daddy?” Gabriela pleaded with Bryan, her big eyes full of concern.
Bryan, feeling resigned, wanted to pull Eileen away and reason with her. But if he didn’t agree right now, Gabriela would probably start to cry. He sighed.
“Okay, okay, I’ll help.”
As Bryan tried to comfort Gabriela, she turned to Eileen, her voice soft and soothing.

“Mommy’s not crying, sweetheart. You’re my little angel. You’re so good to me, unlike someone…” Eileen whispered, hugging Gabriela close. She made sure Gabriela didn’t see her dry eyes, not wanting her daughter to know the tears were fake.
Bryan glared at Eileen.
“I’ll help you, but only if you can put me in a good mood first.”
Eileen knew exactly what he was getting at. But she was undoubtedly reluctant to comply with his demands. She didn’t want to exhaust herself for nights.
Watching him stroll back to work, smug as ever, made Eileen’s anxiety spike.
But what other choice did she have?
Even though Jessica had left the company, she still had Bryan’s number and occasionally texted him.
So, Eileen’s plan was doable.
But Bryan would never fake being with Jessica to take her and Conroy for a physical examination.
And right on cue, Jessica sent him a text, confessing her feelings to him.

Eileen might be doing a good job taking care of Gabriela now, but give me a chance, and I’ll outshine her. Besides, she’s not good enough for you, considering her family background. I’m younger than her and better than her in many ways.”
