Gianna was furious, but the watchful eyes of the bodyguards kept her from confronting Conroy. She forced herself to focus on devising a plan.
“Leyla is rushing this wedding so she can bury her daughter in the family cemetery,” Gianna muttered. “But even with Bryan at the helm of the VQ Group, he can’t just replace you overnight. We still have a chance.”
“Mr. Dawson can easily replace me,” Conroy responded. “He’ll fire anyone at the VQ Group who sides with me. Forget about the company. Just think about how much we can squeeze out of the Vazquez family when we leave.” Conroy knew exactly what Bryan was capable of.
Gianna’s lips parted, but no words came out. What could she do now? She knew she was at Eileen’s and Bryan’s mercy.
Eileen sat in the back of the car, scanning the list Leyla had given her. There were only two families on the list. It would take a whole hour to reach the first family’s residence, and that was the closest one to the Vazquez Mansion.
Maximo’s place was next; it would require another half-hour drive. At this rate, she would have to spend the next three days just inviting people to the wedding, since it was only three days away.
The car soon reached the first family’s place. The family had met Eileen before at the banquet and were polite to her. When Eileen explained why she was there, they were shocked. They kept asking her if she was serious and finally accepted the reality when she confirmed it.
Eileen’s next stop was Maximo’s house. On the way, the experienced driver who had been with the Vazquez family for years suddenly pointed ahead. “That looks like Mrs. Vazquez’s car.”

Maximo’s wife was driving slowly ahead of them.
“Let’s just follow her,” Eileen instructed. “If we get there too early, no one will be home anyway.”
The driver trailed the car at a leisurely pace and filled Eileen in. “Mrs. Vazquez is quite the gambler. Maximo is doing well among the Vazquez family members working at VQ Group, so everyone kisses up to his wife. They always let her win at gambling, which has made her pretty full of herself.”
So, Maximo’s wife was a gambler. Eileen had never met anyone like that, but Leyla had warned her that dealing with Maximo’s wife wouldn’t be easy, so she had prepared herself.
Ten minutes later, they reached their destination. Maximo’s wife pulled up, and Eileen got out of her car.
Maximo’s wife looked at Eileen, confused for a moment, and then sneered. “Well, well, if it isn’t the head of the Vazquez family. Can’t afford to feed yourself at home, so you’ve come here begging for food?”
It was almost lunchtime, and everyone was busy getting ready to eat.
Eileen ignored the dig. “Mrs. Vazquez, I’m here to invite you to Conroy and Gianna’s wedding.”
Maximo’s wife was stunned. She stared at Eileen for a moment and then burst out laughing. “Your father and your aunt? Your grandmother is such a coward. I thought she would finally have some backbone now that you’re back, but it looks like you’re just as spineless.”
“Mrs. Vazquez, mind your tone,” Eileen’s voice was icy, her gaze unwavering. “Your cushy lifestyle depends on your husband, and he depends on the VQ Group. The VQ Group belongs to the Vazquez family.”
