“I told the person that Keith was Eileen’s biological father, and he gave me a million dollars without any conditions. He just said he would be in touch again soon,” Conroy explained.
Gianna was confused. “Did Eileen offend someone before?”
Conroy shook his head. “I’d rather not know the details. I’ll just take the million and focus on planning my comeback. I have connections. It won’t be easy to revive my career, but given time, I’m confident I’ll succeed.”
“What’s wrong with you?” Gianna interjected. “One million is nothing! Why aren’t you planning to regain control of VQ Group? It’s great that Jessica and I can have enough food to eat now! But if you still want to do business with that money, what about us?”
Jessica, engrossed in her phone, retorted, “I’ll listen to my father. You can be a conceited woman yourself; just leave me out of it.”
Gianna was stunned at Jessica’s reply. “You…”
“Gianna, if we use the million for living expenses, it’ll be gone soon. Let’s be realistic; regaining control of VQ Group won’t be easy, especially with Bryan and Eileen in the picture. They’ve already shown us leniency by sparing our lives, so don’t assume we can simply take back VQ Group!” Conroy said. It wasn’t that he wanted to admit defeat, but he realized that doing so was better than losing everything.
Gianna thought for a moment before saying, “Give me the contact information for that mysterious man. I’ll talk to him and see if I can get more money.”
The person had handed over a million dollars for just a single piece of information, which meant he must be very wealthy.
“Okay,” Conroy said, sending the phone number. Gianna swiftly got up to make the call.

The call was answered promptly. Gianna introduced herself before saying, “To be frank, we’re struggling financially, but we won’t compromise our values or break the law. Who exactly are you?”
“Let me introduce myself. My surname is Dawson,” the voice on the other end of the line said. It was deep and raspy, but Gianna could detect a youthful tone in it.
“Dawson?” Gianna guessed that this mysterious man might be from Bryan’s family. “I understand. I resent the tradition of inheriting family assets, so it seems we’re in a similar predicament. Can you tell me what you want? Let me see what I can do for you!”
“Don’t think you can manipulate me. Stay put and wait for my notice,” the voice warned in a cold tone.
Gianna’s eyes widened in alarm, and she felt a chill run down her spine. When the call ended, she quickly put the phone aside and turned to Conroy.
“Why is this person so strange?” she asked.
Conroy remained silent. He felt the same. Anyone who spent a million dollars for a piece of information seemed a bit crazy.
His initial intention had been to sever all ties with this individual after receiving the payment. However, Gianna had insisted on contacting him. Since the person had just instructed them to wait for further notice, it seemed they were destined to have more dealings with him now.
“Quickly! Block his number. You two figure out a way to get back to VQ Group!” Gianna commanded as she blocked the number. She then forced Conroy to do the same.
