Bryan merely smiled, letting the matter drop.
The next day, Eileen decided to stay at home, using the excuse of letting Gabriela spend more time with her grandmother as a reason for not going to work. Bryan, busy with major projects at VQ Group, didn’t object.
Eileen’s respite lasted only a week. Then Raymond called, reporting an issue at the company. With Bryan out negotiating until the afternoon, he asked Eileen to step in.
After entrusting the child to Leyla’s care, Eileen headed directly to VQ Group, only to find a crowd of workers gathered at the entrance. Many security guards emerged to restore order, but the intense emotional responses from both sides only escalated the situation. The workers’ faces reddened in anger.

The leader of the group, a man in his fifties, had a weathered complexion with deep wrinkles etched into his skin, and his fingernails were caked with grime.

VQ Group had secured several construction contracts, but the foremen in the financial department were responsible for distributing the workers’ salaries. The fact that these workers had come to demand payment directly at the company gate suggested that the foreman at their site must have taken the money and fled.
