Dalores hastily wiped away her tears, rose to her feet, and gazed at Eileen and Bryan with hopeful eyes.
“Really? You’ll do that? You’ll really find a doctor? Emerson will be fine then, right?”
“Yes, he will be fine.” Eileen gently guided Dalores to sit back down on the bench and patted her on the back to comfort her.
As Bryan turned to contact the doctor, Dalores slowly began to calm down. The corridor, once filled with noise, had become eerily quiet.
Just then, the ICU door swung open, and the doctor called out, “Which one of you is… Please come here.”
A young couple and several elderly people hastily approached the doctor. After the doctor said something to the family, they burst into tears, overcome with emotion.
The child’s mother was consumed by grief, collapsing to the floor as she wailed uncontrollably, while the others stood by, equally distraught and lacking the strength to lift her up.

Dalores’ heart skipped a beat when she heard this.

When she and Emerson had lived with Kinsey, Emerson would always look at Kinsey with adoring eyes. Kinsey’s presence alone had been enough to make Emerson’s eyes sparkle with excitement, even though Kinsey had never bothered to hug him.

It wasn’t until almost noon that the doctor emerged with an update, revealing that Emerson’s condition had stabilized. His fever had subsided, and he would be closely monitored for another twelve hours before being transferred out of the ICU. Hearing this, Dalores breathed a sigh of relief and thanked the doctor.
She then turned to Eileen and Bryan.
“Thank you. It’s time for lunch. I’ll treat you to lunch.”
But she was only offering to buy them lunch within the hospital, as she couldn’t venture far due to Emerson’s precarious condition.
This put Dalores’ mind at ease. Eileen agreed, and Bryan was willing to do anything Eileen wanted.
