Kamila quickly interrupted her, attempting to steer the conversation in another direction. “That Eileen is Keith’s biological daughter!”
Jaliyah froze, momentarily stunned by the revelation. “What?” she asked, her voice barely a whisper.
Kamila stood up, her tone growing serious. “Eileen’s true intention is to claim the Aston family’s assets. If you want to protect your interests, don’t oppose me here and risk falling prey to her schemes. We must work together to find a solution to counter her moves.”
Jaliyah, who had grown up in a privileged environment, was no stranger to the types of issues that often affected wealthy families. Her parents had warned her about such things many times. However, now that she had a child of her own, and Keith had become a grandfather, it seemed absurd that this secret about Keith having an illegitimate daughter was coming to light.
Before she could ask more questions, the sound of a car engine drifted in from outside. Kamila quickly whispered, “Keith has returned. He still doesn’t know that Eileen is his daughter. The situation is complex. Let’s discuss it later. Keep this confidential for now and return home. I’ll be in touch soon.”
Jaliyah had never seen Kamila like this before, so she restrained herself from reacting impulsively. However, still seething from being forced to kneel, she turned and left without a word. As she reached the entrance, she gave a hasty farewell to Keith, who wore a dark expression, before rushing out.
Keith came inside and asked Kamila, “What happened? Why did you cause trouble in the Byrd’s territory?”
“What else could it be?” Kamila replied bitterly. “It’s all because of that daughter of your former lover. She must have learned about your history with Dottie and sought to avenge her mother’s pain by opposing me. She set me up.”

“She is not that kind of person,” Keith said without hesitation.
Kamila’s eyes widened in astonishment as she stared at him. “What are you talking about? You think I’m the bad person here then?”
Keith furrowed his brows, his expression darkening. “I believe there has been a misunderstanding. Your preconceived notions about her, because of her mother, Dottie, are probably why you didn’t notice anything wrong with the situation.”
Despite his dark expression, his tone was calm.
Kamila paused for a moment, then said, “Possibly. However, I found her behavior so off-putting that I didn’t pay attention to anything else at the time.” She didn’t dispute his point and instead advised, “It’s best for you to keep your distance from her going forward.”
“We don’t have any reasons to contact each other anyway,” Keith replied, his voice tinged with regret. “It’s getting late. Get some rest. I have an early commitment tomorrow.”
He then took off his coat and went upstairs to the study. It had been so long that Kamila had lost track of when Keith last came back to the bedroom to sleep. However, she was aware that a collection of photos of Dottie was stored in a locked drawer on the right-hand side of Keith’s study.
Her hands balled into fists, her nails digging deep into her palms as she recalled the events at the banquet. Her eyes grew cold. Eileen was so cunning! She had never expected Eileen to be such a scheming woman. That was why Eileen had been able to get back at her so quickly.
