Chapter 1460
“What are you so worried about?” he asked. “We’ve been together for so long. What part of you haven’t I already seen or touched?” While he had a point, Eileen replied defiantly, “Then how come you never let me help you in the bathroom?”
“Sure, let’s try that next time.” Bryan stopped trying to take off her pants and instead began unbuckling his own belt. “You can help me.”
Eileen was caught off guard by this. “No! If you keep this up, I’ll wet my pants like Gabriela!”
Seeing her discomfort, Bryan stopped with his belt halfway undone and continued to help her with her leggings. After making sure she was settled on the toilet, he finally stepped out and secured his belt.
Though Eileen wasn’t physically distressed, she understood the risks involved with the pregnancy and Bryan’s concern for her. And despite her desire to be at home, she never voiced her reluctance to stay in the hospital.
As for the suspicious medicine, she had left the matter entirely in Bryan’s hands and chose not to inquire further about it.
The next morning, Bailee brought Ruby and Gabriela to visit. They had been worried but relaxed upon seeing Eileen looking well and in good spirits.
“It was terrifying! How could you start bleeding suddenly? There weren’t any problems when you were pregnant with Gabriela,” Ruby said, concern lining her face as she scanned the vague medical report, which only noted that Eileen was “under observation.”
“Mom was so worried she called me at four this morning. If Gabriela hadn’t been asleep and we didn’t want to wake you, we would’ve been here by five,” Bailee said.
The chill of early autumn lingered. Bailee’s hands were icy from the cold journey, so she didn’t dare to touch Eileen.
Eileen handed her a cup of warm water and reassured her, “Didn’t I call yesterday to let you know everything was alright? There’s no need to worry so much.”
“Your health was already fragile after having Gabriela. And now with you having another baby only three years later, you really need to be careful,” Ruby said, setting aside the medical records to pour a bowl of soup for Eileen. “I’ll take care of Gabriela. You just focus on resting here. Bailee can bring you meals I cook since you’re not fond of the hospital food. Just let me know what you’d like.”
Holding the bowl of soup, Eileen felt a comforting warmth spread through her. “There’s no need to go to such trouble. Bailee has her job, and Bryan will take care of my meals.”
“You think it’s just for you?” Bailee quickly responded. “Ruby will also make a portion for me, and I’ll just bring yours along.”
Ruby chuckled. “Yes, and Bailee can use me for extra nutrition herself. She just went through IVF and needs to recover.”
The results of the IVF would take about a month to know if it was successful.
Ruby had hopes for its success but kept her expectations to herself. She knew too well that high hopes could lead to deep disappointments and unwanted pressure for Bailee.
Eileen said, “You really need to take good care of yourself, Bailee. I’ve heard IVF can be quite tough. If the education center is overwhelming, let Phoebe step in. She owns shares there, too, so it’s only right she takes on some of the load.”
“It’s fine. It was just tough the first few days. I’m on top of things now and can manage the workload,” Bailee reassured her with a smile.
“Now, drink the soup before it gets cold.”
As their conversation continued, Phoebe and Dalores arrived.
