Chapter 56 The Birthday Party Of Harriet
Why am I not wearing the hospital doten anymore!!!
For a moment, the atmosphere became somewhat awkward.
Percivalquicklyclarified, “The housekeeperwasthe one who changed your clothes. However, I saw many injuries on your body. As a doctor, I don’t see gender, so don’t worry toomuchâ€
Kaylee let out a wry laugh. What am I even worried about! I’ho toould even be interested in my battered body?
She shook her head and said. That’s not what I meant, but thank you nonetheless. By the way, where are we? Didn’t you take me tothehospital?â€
“I was afraid that the Goodridge family and Casimir might find out if you’re admitted, so I brought you to myplace.†Percival’s expression suddenly turned serious.
“You mentioned that the Goodridge family admitted you to the psychiatric hospital. What exactly happened? What grudge could they possibly holdagainstyou to treat you like this?â€
“The psychiatrist at the psychiatric hospital said it was Samuel who admitted me, so it shouldn’t be a lie.†Raylee’s eyes were dead as she murmured, “I also don’t know whyhedid that. I’ve been in jail for four years. Isn’t that enough? Does he want me dead to feel satisfied? I’mahuman, too. We weresiblingsfor eighteenyears, yet he treats me worse than an animal.â€
The rims of her eyes grew increasingly red, her long lashes trembling. She looked sorrowful and forsaken, like a little fairy who lost herwayin the mortal world.
Her words and her trying to force back her tears suffocated Percival.
In truth, he hadsomewhatsurmised that Raylee’s imprisonment wasn’t simple.
Based on Casimir’s behavior, it was clear that he had been trying to make amends to his former fiancée eversinceher release from prison. The reasonsweresimple–either he still had lingering feelings for her, or there was more to her imprisonment.

An indescribable sensation welled up within him as if something had struck him right in the heart.
A a doctor, heshouldn’tempathize with others too much.
However, Rayleewasanexception. He had witnessed the gruesome wounds on her body, understanding the extent of tormentshemust have endured to bear such scars.
That night, when he lifted her in hisarms, herfrailbody felt just like a broken porcelain doll.
Shelived in agony yet also persevered, much like a resilient and unyielding blade ofgrass.
The experiencesandhardships she had gone through were truly heart–wrenching.
The night was slightly chilly, and the heat in the housewasn’twarm enough.
Percival offered her acoatto drape over herself.
“If you want to, you canstayheretorecover from your wounds. You can even stay for a lifetime. This place can beyoursanctuary.â€
A single statement left Rayleedumbstruck. She looked at Percival inastate of shock.
Dr. Shapiro, we’re not exactly close…
“We’rehumans. We get closer the more we mingle, don’t we? I’m just someonemakingalivingoffmysurgical skills. comprehend your family feuds, but I can save lives and heal the wounded, and noonecan stop me fromdoingthat.â€
“Thankyou, Dr. Shapiro, Raylee finally said, her eyes inevitably welling up with tears.

Percival gently ruffled her disheveled hair. “Don’t cry. Take a look at this report. It’s the result of your blood tests that I had done for you.
That day, Raylee, leaning on her crutch, insisted on returning to the Goodridge residence.
She immediately rushed to the birthdaypartyuponlearning that they were celebrating Harriet’s birthday at arestaurant.
Inside a luxurious private dining room of a restaurant, Waverly and Samuel sang a birthday song for Harriet with smiles on their faces.
On thetablesata beautifully crafted,extravaganttwo–tiered cake.
The scene was filled withanoverwhelming sense of joyandwarmth.
Raylee forcefully pushed the door open.
They turned around, and upon seeing her, a look of surprise spread across their faces.
Samuel, in particular, was taken aback. He stood rooted to the spot like a statue.
I’ve admitted Rayleetoapsychiatric hospital, so how did she manage to get out!
What he didn’t know was that after Percivalhadrescued Raylee that night, the director of the psychiatric hospital was at a loss as to how to explain the situation to Samuel.
The director couldn’t afford to offend anyone.
Hence, he simply procrastinated, stating that Raylee had been staying in the psychiatric hospital. He decided to wait until he could no longer hide it, then let the two sides argue.
“Ray–Ray, did you come to celebrate my birthday? Welcome.†Harriet stood up, brimming with joy.
During the fouryearsthatRaylee was absent, shefelt melancholic every birthday. Thankfully, Waverly was there to keep her company, making things easier for her.
Waverlysaid with a smile, “Raylee, I went to Goodridge Manor yesterday to invite you to Mom’s birthday party, but Grandma Suid
youwere outhavingfun with Jeremiah. Mom must be overjoyed since you specifically came back to celebrate herbirthday. I wonder what gift you’ve bought her?â€
At that time, Raylee wasleaningonacrutch, holding just two pieces of paper. Her hands were otherwise empty, so how could there be a gift?

Waverly was always bringing up what shouldn’t be mentioned,
“Consider my injured leg a gift.Areyousatisfied?†Raylee glared at her coldly.
“No need for gifts.Yourpresence is enough.†Harriet quickly tried to smooth things over, adding, “I’ve already heard from Wavy that Ms. Sutherland accidentally hit you with her car a few days ago. It was all an unfortunate mishap. Everyone is in high spirits today, so let’s not bring it up again.â€
Having always intended to mend his relationship with Raylee,Alaricenthusiastically greeted her, saying, “Regardless, it’s at good thingyou’rehere. It’s been four years since our family last gathered, a truly precious occasion! Samuel, hurry upandhelp your sister to the tablet
Onlyafter hearing his name did Samuel break hissilence.
When he saw Kaylee, he didn’tevendare to look directly at her. His feet felt like they were weighed down by a tremendous force, making each step arduous, letalonehelping Raylee to her seat.
No need. Just a touch from such a person makes me feel sick!†Raylee exclaimed, her demeanor cold as ice. She limped into the private room with her crutch, approaching Samuel and throwing the blood test report athisface.
“Ray–Ray, whatareyou doing? What is this? Whyareyou throwing it at your brother’sface?†Harriet ran over in shock, looking utterly confused as she picked bloodtestreport.

“Ask your dear son what it is. This is my blood test report, the proof that I nearly lost my sanity!†Raylee roared with all her strength and raised her crutch, sending it down toward his body.
“Don’t hit Samuel!†Waverly rushed forward to shield Samuel, taking the blow of the crutch on her body. The pain madeherserram out loud.
This was Waverly’s allure and tactic in having the Goodridge family wrapped around her little finger. She had mastered the art of playing the victim to perfection, commonly known as self–imposed suffering for agoal.
The Goodridge family would unconditionally stand by her side for as long as she endured hardships and expressed her grievances.
Kaylee felt no guilt for hitting the wrong person while watching Waverly’s performance. Instead, she regretted not having hit the latter harder.
These siblings are as bad as each other. None of them are any good.
Sureenough, the stunned Samuel instantly became full of vigor and determination when he saw his beloved sister being bullied.
“Take out your anger on me. Why didyouhit Wavy? Apologize!†he shouted at Raylee, his expression flushed with fury.
“I was indeed aiming for you. She was theonewho foolishly jumped in the way. Tell her to back off. You’re the one who deserves a beating!†Kaylee glared at him fiercely.
Alaricsnapped, “Ray–Ray, have you lost your mind? You’re behaving as if you’ve been lit on fire. WhathasSamuel done to offend you that you want to hithimâ€
“Indeed. Ray–Ray, today is my birthday. Why are you and your siblings arguing? Could you stop lighting for mysake?†Harriet persuaded.
Suddenly, Waverly’s eyes welled up with tears. “Raylee, today is Mom’s birthday. Can youpleasestop causing such a chimmotion?†she pleaded, her voice choked with emotion. “It’s all my fault. If only Ihadn’tcome back. The root of everything lies with me. Raylee, if you stay and celebrate Moin’s birthday, I can leave.â€
After saying that, she turned to leave.
Harriet grabbed her arm. “Wavy, this has nothing to do with you. If you leave today, I won’t celebrate my birthday!â€

Upon witnessing his wife and daughter being bullied, Alaric immediately stepped forward to reproach Raylee, “What’s so urgentthatit can’t wait until later? Do you find satisfaction in disrupting everyone’s mood?â€
Observing the nauseating display of affection between this mother and daughter, and faced with the accusations of this entire family, Raylee let out a sarcasticlaugh. “Yourson, Samuel, forcefully committed me to a psychiatric hospital. In an attempt to escape, I jumped from the third floor and nearly lost my life. May Iask, Mr. and Mrs. Goodridge, would you consider thisatrivial matter, or a serious one?â€
Upon hearing this, AlaricandHarriet were utterly bewildered.
They clearly couldn’t believe what they were hearing, let alone thefactthat their flesh and bloodcouldcommitsuch a heinous act.
Just astheywere hoping to get adenialfrom Samuel, he anxiously exclaimed, “Why did you try to escape? Couldn’t you have just stayedput?â€
It fell apart on its own.
“You scoundrel! Why did you confine Ray–Ray in a psychiatric hospital? Have you lost your mind?†Alaric questioned in Janger.
Samuel wore a grim expression, believing he had done nothing wrong. “Dad,I only didthisfor the sake of our family. Besides, I didn’t let them hurt Ray–Ray, only to confineher,†he argued.
“Didn’t hurt me? Raylee picked up the blood test report on the tableandsmacked it onto his faceagain.
“Open your eyes wide and take a good look. This blood test report shows the results of the drug the psychiatrist at the mental hospital injected into me. This kind of drug can cause hallucinations and make one lose their clarity ofmind. Toputitbluntly, over time, I would become a fool!â€sheexclaimed.
