Chapter 465 The Storm at Home
When Sierra woke up the next morning, Johnathan wasn’t in the cabin. She stretched and walked out, finding him standing on the deck, facing the sea breeze.
Hearing her come out, Johnathan turned to look at her with a calm expression.
“Still want to fish today?”
“I do.”
Sierra was hooked. More than anything, it was rare to have this kind of relaxing time–just the two of them, completely at ease, with nothing to worry about.
But their fishing plans didn’t pan out. Johnathan’s satellite phone rang.
It was a call from Chase. Wayne had been rushed to the hospital in an emergency, and the situation was critical.
As soon as they got the news, Sierra and Johnathan started making preparations to return. Johnathan contacted the plane right away. By the time they made it back to the island, the plane was ready and waiting.
They didn’t even have time to pack. Grabbing only their identification, they left immediately.
They landed just in time for New Year’s Eve and rushed straight to the old family estate.
Johnathan stayed silent the whole way, his lips pressed tightly together.
Wayne had been perfectly fine when they left. How had things gone so wrong so suddenly?
Chase hadn’t said much on the phone, but Johnathan could tell–something big had happened.
When they arrived, most of the core Wynn family members were already waiting outside the room. Chase was there, along with people from the second and third branches of the family.
Jose quickly came up to greet them when he saw them arrive. He looked like he wanted to say something, but with so many people around, he kept his voice low.
“Johnathan, someone’s up to no good.”
Johnathan glanced around at the others but said nothing.
He walked forward slowly, and one of his aunts sneered.
“The eldest grandson really is something. Shows up last, and still Grandpa dotes on him the most. I hear he even left the country. No wonder Grandpa suddenly canceled the New Year’s Eve dinner this year. What a privilege…”
Johnathan shot right back without hesitation.
“Jealous? Too bad. You’ll never get that kind of privilege.”

Her face flushed red with anger. She knew she couldn’t win in a war of words with Johnathan, so she turned her aim to Sierra instead.
“What’s wrong with the people outside? Just letting in any stray cat or dog!”
Johnathan hadn’t lost his temper before, but now his expression darkened.
“If you don’t know how to speak like a decent person, then shut up. She has more right to be here than you do. She’s my legally wedded wife–the lady of the Wynn family. So, who exactly shouldn’t be here?”
“You’re married?”
His aunt froze, stunned. She’d heard some rumors, but since the family hadn’t officially announced anything, she hadn’t taken them seriously. She hadn’t expected Johnathan to actually marry a woman with no family backing at all.
“So what if you’re married? Who knows about it? Did Mr. Wayne approve?”
This time, it was Chase who answered her.
“We all attended my son’s wedding. As for my father–of course he was there.”
“No way! I didn’t hear anything about it!”
Johnathan’s aunt blurted out.
Johnathan let out a cold laugh. “You didn’t hear about it because you weren’t important enough to be invited to my wedding.”
“Now, if you don’t mind–kindly move aside, dear Aunt.”
Johnathan’s words left her speechless. She looked like she wanted to say something else, but her expression suddenly changed. She gave a snide chuckle.
“Go ahead and enjoy it while it lasts. Let’s see how long you stay smug.”
With that, she stepped aside.
Her attitude left both Sierra and Johnathan puzzled. Sierra tried to make sense of what she’d just said but couldn’t figure it out.
Just as Johnathan reached out to open the door, his uncle stopped him.
“Wait. Dad’s not awake yet. We’ll talk once he wakes up.”
Johnathan raised an eyebrow, about to respond–when a voice came from inside the room.
“Let them in.”
Wayne had woken up at some point.
With that, everyone moved to enter.
