“Let’s go, let’s go have dinner,” Tang Yuchen said.
“Uncle and Auntie, would you like to come with us for dinner?” Kangkang politely asked the two, who shook their heads at the same time, not wanting to be a third wheel.
“Then we’re off,” the little guy revealed his little white teeth, smiling adorably.
Wen Jing couldn’t help but reach out to touch his chubby cheeks, “Go on, Uncle and Auntie are heading home too, we’ll see you next time, goodbye.”
“Goodbye,” Kangkang raised his little hand and waved.
After saying goodbye to An Ruo and the others, they had just walked a few steps when Wen Jing began whispering to Zhang Yang. An Ruo couldn’t help but smile helplessly, knowing without guessing that Wen Jing was gossiping about them.
“Let’s go,” Tang Yuchen spoke up again, she looked at him and eventually nodded in agreement.
The man smiled brightly, pleased to be taking them to a fancy restaurant.
During dinner, the atmosphere at their table was very pleasant, partly due to the presence of the child.
This restaurant often took photos of customers for keepsakes, and a staff member, finding their family of three’s scene delightful, came over with a camera to offer to take a group picture.
Kangkang readily agreed, and the two adults had to oblige. In reality, Tang Yuchen was quite happy to have someone take their photo, with the only reluctant party being An Ruo.
The photos were quickly developed, and in the picture, all three of them were beaming beautifully, looking every bit the model family. However, no one in the restaurant knew that the child’s parents had long been divorced.
After dinner, Tang Yuchen drove them home. Kangkang was reluctant to see him leave, and so he once again stayed over.
An Ruo said nothing, not because she was indulging him, but because she didn’t want to disappoint the child.
They owed Kangkang too much. From his birth, he had lived in his own world without the company or love of his parents, and they had no idea how he had grown up.
How much hardship and injustice he had endured, they didn’t even dare to imagine.
All they could do now was to make up for the love he had missed out on during those two years, to make up for his happiness and joy.
If he liked being with his dad, then she tacitly allowed Tang Yuchen to stay and keep him company.
Now, having lost everything, she only had this child, and she didn’t want to let him down or upset him, as long as it wasn’t excessively indulging him.
And so, Tang Yuchen had a legitimate reason to stay over.
He even moved his clothes and some daily necessities over, as though reverting to the scene from over two years ago when, with her silent consent, he had moved in and then once again captured her heart.
He hoped to be successful this time too, and was very confident in himself.
However, An Ruo’s attitude toward him remained unchanged, still so aloof, which was normal.
A few days later, An Ji came back.
To welcome his return, An Ruo took the day off from work, while Tang Yuchen went to the company.
Early in the morning, she started preparing the meal, and around ten o’clock, she heard the sound of the door opening.
An Ji walked in, and An Ruo ran to the Mysterious Gate area. The siblings exchanged similar smiles, and An Ji stepped forward with open arms to give her a hug, whispering in her ear, “Sis, I’m back.”
“Welcome home,” An Ruo said with relief, patting his back.
Standing behind them, Kangkang shouted, “Little Uncle, I want a hug too!”
