Chapter 189
“She must be expelled from our school! Did you see the amount of damage she had done in the school? She hasn’t even been in the school for a week, and already she is courting trouble left, right and center. What’s the next on her agenda p>
Maybe burn your nose. I thought meekly, staring at the woman who hadn’t stopped hissing and clamoring for my expulsion since I had stepped into the boardroom that was big enough to house more than a hundred students.
So, this was the worst that could happen? Expulsion from school? It didn’t hit hard as I thought it would, but I didn’t want to be expelled though. I wanted to finish high school. I already dropped out in the pack, I can’t drop out here again.
I wasn’t sure when Laura and Peter had been called, but the two had been around when I had stepped into the room. Laura had immediately left her seat, and had started fussing over me, asking if I was okay, and all that.
She had found it confusing that I had not a smell of smoke on my body. I hadn’t bothered with explanations, seeing that we had been the centre of attention then. We could talk when we get home. I had concluded, before greeting Peter, and taking a seat next to them.
Right now, they were pleading for leniency, right now Duke was just staring at me, with a calculating glint in his eyes. It unsettled me more than the threat of expulsion from school. Turns out Duke was one of the members of the school board.
I don’t even know why I had been surprised when I had seen him on one of the chairs surrounding the round table. Knowing the Queen, she would want to sink her claws everywhere, despite her claims of letting her people behave with utmost freedom.
“Yes, she had lost control of her powers. But didn’t we all start like that? That she has a large amount of power stored in her doesn’t change that fact.” A man, who had defended my cause since I had come in, said, getting my attention once more.

Why was I even here? My input wasn’t needed, hadn’t been asked for since I came in. They could have just settled all this without troubling me.

Laura and I glanced at each other, fear clouding our features for a second before returning to the background.
“What is it, Duke. Let’s hear it.” Mr Killua demanded sharply.
Seems they don’t see eye to eye.
“I don’t think we should expel her. Her magic tells us she is much of an asset to let go, and one of destruction if we don’t teach her p>
Mr. Killua nodded with a smile. A surprised smile. They sure didn’t agree over many things.

Okay, here it goes. Nothing goes for nothing right.
“She has to train with the Queen, at least once a week. Seeing the sheer amount of fire myself, I don’t think any of us can handle that if it goes out of control again, not even her guardians. You know He paused, and chuckled.
That chuckle sent a bomb of dread into my system. I clenched my hands.
“The Queen had offered to train her two days ago. She had visited the family. Ms Akwoods turned down the offer. Her guardians too p>
Silence filled the atmosphere for the second time. Even the Mr Killua who had been on our side all this time, seemed to have changed his spots. We were the center of attention now.
“Is that so? Why then p>
Neither I nor my guardians gave an answer to the woman. We had nothing to say. Duke had us trapped. We couldn’t buy our way either with the recording too. It was too risky, not with my fire outage.
“I think we have come to the end of the matter now.” The leader of the board said; an old man with a braided white beard.
“Ms Akwoods won’t be expelled. She won’t be suspended either. What happened wasn’t entirely her fault. And she had managed to quench it fairly well. But she trains with the Queen during the weekends. Is that okay p>
The others nodded their heads.
“Is that understood? Akwoods?” This question was directed to my family and I.
“Yes. It is.” Peter spoke on behalf of us all. “Can we leave now p>
The man waved him away. He seemed tired too. Well, he was very old. Maybe a hundred years old?
When I looked at Duke again, right before standing up from the seat, he was sporting a satisfied smirk. That’s okay. I will make him regret making the suggestion.
“You understood that I had no choice, Maya?” Peter asked, as we left the office, and started down the hallways which was now crowded with students. It seemed that classes were called off today, as Raul had prophesied.
“Yes, I understand. It’s fine too. I will be okay. The Queen…she won’t be able to do anything. I promise to be cautious p>
Laura sighed, and clasped my hand in hers, as if lending strength to me. “You will be fine p>
As I walked through the school halls with them, I felt the weight of stares following me like a heavy shroud. Faces turned towards me with a mixture of awe and fear, whispers trailing in my wake.
Then I saw Levina. She was standing by our class. Usually so quick-witted and supportive, she seemed to have been rendered speechless when I stopped in front of her.

The shock wasn’t hers alone, the teachers seemed to be struck with that too.
It wasn’t just confusion or concern in their eyes; it was something deeper, a mixture of curiosity and apprehension about the power I possessed.
“Wait for us here. Let us pick Diana from her class. We also need to speak with her teacher.” Peter said as soon as we left the hallways, into the open air environment.
I nodded, then inhaled the clean air, to settle my nerves. I was about to open my bag and take out a chocolate bar when I heard my name called.
I darted my gaze sharply to the point of call, astonished when I saw Adam standing at attention, flanked by his brothers.
