Chapter 196
Was this a joke?
It’s a lame one if it was.
When I perused Daniel’s face however, he wasn’t laughing because he had made a joke, he was laughing because he thought it funny that I was lost for words in the face of his comment. He was serious.
What the hell?! What in god’s name was this anomaly? Was there no first aid kit in the Queen’s house? Was there no healer there? Even if there wasn’t, couldn’t the Queen have tended to the wounds since Adam was a guest of the palace?
I released a string of curses then, ignoring the comical expression on Daniel’s face.
Who had brought the stupid idea of bringing the hooligan to my house?
I ruffled my hair angrily, disregarding my significant other’s exasperation with me for letting my emotions out in the open.
’Must you act like you are actually shocked? This Lycan isn’t stupid. He would read you off like a book, or rather he has read you up already. No way would you be escaping his clutches now p>
She might be right, but this was no time to stew in the likely consequence of my lack of self control.
Adam was in my house? Laura was treating him? It would mean that Peter had tapped into his self control reservoir, something I seemed to have a hard time doing, whenever the boys are involved.
’It’s a general problem you need to work on. The boys weren’t involved in the outburst of fire at school today p>
I ignored her and her truth. Instead I started walking toward my house, aware that Daniel was following my pace steadily. I was almost running.
“Slow down Dora. I know you have no good reputation for us, but it’s just a mere treatment. We are not usurping your place in the house.” Daniel chuckled again, but I didn’t find his words funny. I didn’t find him funny. I didn’t want the boys in my space.
We could do whatever it was outside, but not in my space. I didn’t want to look at my sofa and remember Adam or Noah or Daniel. But silence has never been a cue for Daniel to stop talking.
“You know, thinking about this now, I believe my brother had intentionally let me punch his face to oblivion, so that he could be here. You see, the Queen had tried healing him herself, but he had blatantly refused. When asked why, he had pointed out that he wanted to come to the only certified healer of the community. He knew of course that the only certified healer in the community was your Aunt. The boy is shrewd, I have to admit. He had made that choice, not minding the feelings of his betrothed, like he didn’t know that pushing to come here was pushing to see you. His plan hadn’t been obvious from the beginning, but I can see the connected dots now p>
I willfully pushed myself to continue walking, and not stop to deliberate on the madness that was Adam. Had that been the reason for the last glance he had given me before I left to join my guardians at Diana’s block?
My god! He had the cards in his hands all this while, and here I was thinking I was the winner. Adam was in my house. He looked like the winner now.
A couple of punches won’t do anything to a Lycan, even if he was beaten to a pulp. Adam had factored that already. Daniel’s attack had just been the final trigger for the success of his plan. But what was his plan really? What was his intention for coming to my house?
I ruffled my hair, frustrated already—frustration fanned by hunger. Whatever emotion on my face caused Daniel to chuckle for the umpteenth time.
“Well, it seems that my brother has set his eyes on you. And if I’m being honest, you interest Noah too. Well, this might be a good game, to see who will have you at last. A fair game between three brothers. I’m sure my father would agree to it. I’m aware that the news of your magic has already gotten to his ears—he would want you in the family now. If not for Adam, considering the alliance, but for I or Noah p>
Right at that moment, an imagery of Mr Brekan appeared in my mind, an imagery of Me Brekan’s facial expression if he found out that I was the Maya he had looked down upon. The imagery tickled me.
I wanted to turn aside and bash Daniel again, but it was of no use now. I couldn’t change his mind. I could only strive to get out of their webs. I wanted to ask him, however, if I was a prize that was being fought for, but the door of the living room opened and Diana stepped out. She was livid.
Oh well. I saw this coming. I was happy about it too. At least my family won’t swoon over them like the others in the community.
When Diana saw Daniel with me, she harshly raised her hand, anger still riding on her, and Daniel tripped on his feet. The Lycan fell before he knew it and bit the dust.
“What the hell!” He shouted, raising up his head to glare at an unconcerned Diana.
I laughed, feeling the tension around my shoulders go away. Follow current novᴇls on
“Thanks Diana.” I shouted, giving her a thumbs up, despite the fact that she was hurrying over to me. She hugged my legs to herself, and lifted her hand toward Daniel again.
Daniel didn’t waste time to make a plea. “Please, we are friends now. You can ask her p>
I furrowed my eyebrows. “Friends? Since when p>
Daniel sported the incredulity face again, but I couldn’t care less. He jumped to his feet and dusted his body.
“We aren’t friends, Daniel. Don’t you know the meaning of the word?” I asked, covering the little distance between us and the living room.
Daniel attempted to enter the hut with us, but I wasn’t having it.
“Stay back!” I commanded, before entering the living room with Diana, and shutting the door in his face.
Daniel can go to the clinic and stay. That’s where his brother was after all.
