Chapter 17
Chapter 17:
We managed to free ourselves and escape with a thirst for vengeance after one of Zal’s men was shot in the head.
“I want fucking names. We don’t lose a guy and forget. Businesses are going down. I don’t care who’s the boss. No one messes with the Taheris and gets away with it!” My anger boiled over as we reached the old abandoned warehouse we sometimes used for meetings. I hadn’t even realized I was bleeding until I tasted the metallic tang of my blood as it trailed down my lips.
I staggered slightly when Zal, my dear cousin who handled the operational side of the business, reminded me that my head had hit a brick wall earlier. He pointed to my forehead, and I felt the blood the moment my fingers touched the open wound.
“It looked worse, but it’s not that bad. Probably just a couple of stitches. Let’s go. I’ll take you to get patched up before you head back to your place p>
Minutes later, I was lying in the dingy back office of the unquestionable medical expert we called Doc. Zal was waiting for me, texting and making calls while keeping busy. I had no doubt that he was actively seeking answers from the rest of his men.
Doc, an older man with crooked glasses that sat too low on the bridge of his nose, told me to lie down and rest before resuming my daily activities. “I’d advise you to get a CT scan for your head, just to be safe. But if your headache doesn’t get worse and you’re not vomiting, you’re probably fine p>
I certainly didn’t have time for a CT scan, so I took his advice and went back to my apartment an hour later.
“Robyn, I had a run-in with a certain brick wall. Before you get all your hopes up—no, I’m not dying,” I chuckled as I heard her make a disappointed sound on the other end.
“I’m assuming you won’t be going back to the office?” Robyn didn’t sound worried at all. She’d been working for me for years and had endured various harmful and deadly incidents with me.
“Nope. I’ll be fine, just a shitty headache. Doc gave me the good stuff. But I’m calling because you’re going to be my eyes and ears for my three o’clock meeting. Let Harry lead the meeting. You just need to sit pretty and make sure you take notes so I can go over them tomorrow p>
“Done. Do you want me to come over and pamper you afterward?” ɴᴇᴡ ɴᴏᴠᴇʟ ᴄʜᴀᴘᴛᴇʀs ᴀʀᴇ ᴘᴜʙʟɪsʜᴇᴅ ᴏɴ
“No, my little minion. Stay at the office, instill fear into my employees, and make sure no one leaves before five p>

“As you wish, my Lord,” she replied in a very serious tone. I had to bite back my laughter, knowing she was doing the same on her end.
“I’ll see you bright and early tomorrow, my love. Have a fun day at work p>
“Thank you, sir, peace out.” She ended the call, and I smiled as I leaned back against the sofa.
I ignored some work emails and instead checked my messaging app, noticing an unread message notification.
Bashful: Hey, are we still on for tonight?
Me: I had a bit of an accident. May not go all the way, but we’ll see.
Bashful: What happened? Are you okay? Are you home? Is someone there with you? Do you need to go to the hospital? I can leave earlier if you need me to.
Damn, he’s cute.
Me: I’m okay. I’m home. Alone. I’ll be fine. Doc gave me the good stuff p>
Bashful: I’ll leave in two hours. Do you have dietary restrictions?
Me: No alcohol?
