Chapter 43
Chapter 43:
What we didn’t expect was Oscar’s sister showing up. I was briefly caressing his hand when she walked in. It wasn’t anything anyone would’ve noticed, unless they were looking. And, ironically, Rena noticed.
The look on Oscar’s face confirmed her suspicions. I couldn’t blame him. Oscar could be very transparent sometimes. I knew that, even if I denied it, Rena would see through us. She saw the flush on his face as he pulled his hand away from mine too quickly, and I could feel everything crumbling around us before the words even left her lips.
Rena’s expression shifted from confusion to accusation, and I could feel the tension thickening in the air. She looked between me and Oscar, and I could sense her anger building. “What is going on here?” she demanded, her voice laced with both confusion and rising fury.
I tried to come up with something, anything that could explain it, but my mind was blank. I knew that whatever I said would be ignored. I could see the rage in her eyes, and I realized there was no way to hide the truth from her.
Before I could speak, Rena turned to her brother. “You’ve been lying to me this whole time,” she said, her voice trembling with disbelief.
A wave of anger surged through me. Rena had known the truth, and there was no way out of it now.
“Please, Rena, I can explain,” Oscar whispered, his voice barely audible, his eyes darting nervously around the restaurant as if seeking an escape.
But his sister wasn’t having it. “No, you’ve been lying to me this whole time. And now you’ve humiliated our family by engaging in this…
This behavior,” she half-whispered, as though our relationship was too much for her to bear.
Oscar looked at me, fear evident in his eyes. “What’s going to happen now?” he whispered, panic seeping into his voice.
I shook my head, silently signaling for him to stay calm. I knew his sister could do a lot of damage, and I could see how deeply Oscar cared about her. I also knew that if it came down to a choice between her and me, I wouldn’t hesitate to pick Oscar. I would do anything for him, and frankly, I didn’t care if his sister was out of the picture.
As they continued to argue, frustration began to build inside me. I had always known that coming out to my family would be difficult, but seeing it unfold like this—especially with Oscar—was more painful than I had imagined. I wasn’t sure I’d ever be able to be kind or civil to my aunts and uncles again. Watching the siblings argue, I felt indifferent to whatever they might do to me. I knew I could handle it; I was stronger than that. I was done playing nice. Fresh chapters posted on.net
I realized I needed to find a way to protect both Oscar and myself, but I also knew I had to be careful in how I approached the situation. Oscar had to be on board with my plan before I did anything drastic. My mind was racing as I observed the siblings’ argument unfold in front of me.

Rena looked at me, her anger flaring. Minutes passed, and there was still no resolution. Eventually, I interrupted their hushed argument, pulling out a chair for her. “Look, Rena, I’m sorry about what my aunt might say about me, about us,” I began, trying to remain calm and civil as she sat down between us. Oscar seemed to relax just a little when I intervened. “But you do realize I never promised you anything when we first met, right?” I locked eyes with her, choosing to go in strong. I had nothing left to lose. Our secret was out—Rena knew, and she could easily tell Aunt Yasmin about us.
“But Aunt Yasmin said you were looking for a wife, and now you’re dating my brother. How long has this been going on?” she demanded, her voice fierce. She’d completely dropped the timid front she’d put on during our first meeting.
I couldn’t help but laugh at her, which only made her glare at me before turning her eyes to Oscar, probably thinking I’d lost my mind.
