Chapter 429
“Who is it? Someone I know?” In the past, Nita had never cared to know anything about the women he was with.
Cathie nodded and replied, “Cecilia. I was afraid you’d be upset, so I didn’t dare tell you.”
Nita froze for a brief moment, then a look of understanding crossed her face. She nodded. “You know, that actually makes perfect sense.”
“It does?” Cathie was taken aback. She had expected a much stronger reaction to such a bombshell.
“Doesn’t it?” Nita smiled. “Two absolutely terrible people found each other. They’re a match made in heaven.”
“I suppose you’re right…” Cathie laughed along with her. “But I doubt that baby will ever be born. I know Cecilia. She’s all about self–interest. She tried to pin the baby on Theodore–Theodore, of all people! Can you imagine? Now that the truth is out and Jared’s in jail, what good would having that baby do her?”
“True…” Nita agreed. “But whatever happens to them is none of our business. Let the trash take itself
out.”
Emma, though an ocean away, was vaguely aware of the upheavals back in Cresthaven. Latham Fairchild would report back to Larson Bennett, and Emma would occasionally overhear snippets when she visited her aunt on weekends. But like Nita, she felt no emotional ripples. It was like seeing celebrity gossip on the news–a moment of surprise, and then nothing.
Larson worked with incredible speed. Three months after Emma started school, the wellness center was complete. For her convenience, he had it opened right near her university.
The doctors and nurses were all brought over from their home country. Larson offered generous salaries and one–year contracts, with the option to return home and be replaced if they didn’t adjust. There was no shortage of volunteers from Dr. Fletcher’s team; the doctors joked among themselves that Mr. Bennett was simply paying too much.
The doctor who administered Emma’s acupuncture was named Dr. Crimson, and his wife, a rehabilitation nurse, came with him. ᴜᴘᴅᴀᴛᴇ ꜰʀᴏᴍ.net
So, Emma began her daily routine of going to the Meridian Therapy Center for her rehabilitation.
Her classmates were curious but too polite to ask. Eventually, a friendly local girl named Edith, with whom she’d become close, asked what the wellness center was for.
Emma took the opportunity to openly explain about her leg and the traditional wellness center.
Her classmates were amazed. “Can it really heal your leg?” they asked.
“A lot of it depends on my own effort,” Emma said. “But as long as there’s even a sliver of hope, I don’t want to give up.”
Moved by her determination, they hugged her and offered words of encouragement.
Given their fascination, Emma gave them a brief overview of the center, mentioning how it could

regulate health and treat illnesses. They were most interested in the meridian therapy and other specialized treatments.
“I’ve seen stuff like that on YouTube! It looks like magic,” one classmate exclaimed.
One day, Edith asked to accompany Emma to the center. After experiencing the “magic” for herself, she returned and described it so vividly that everyone else became curious. Soon, they were all going to try it. When Emma explained that the herbal remedies were infusions brewed from various plants, they drew a parallel to potions made by mages and wizards, which only deepened their curiosity. They started visiting for headaches, back pain, and other minor ailments. Word of mouth spread, the wellness center’s reputation grew, and the staff found themselves incredibly busy.
The wellness center Larson had opened exclusively for Emma was, unexpectedly, starting to turn a profit.
