The Disdained Luna Who Rose Alone Chapter 145

Chapter 145

Evelyn’s POV
I stared coldly at them.
The man standing there had small, squinting eyes that made my skin crawl. He was middle-aged and overweight with sweat beading on his forehead despite the hospital’s air conditioning.
“Diana, this is our new niece! She’s so beautiful!” he called out. My security team blocked his path, but that didn’t stop him from trying.
He put on a warm smile that looked anything but genuine. “Evelyn, your uncle is here now. You can come to me anytime if you need anything.” He leaned forward slightly. “No matter how late it is, your uncle’s door will always be open for you.”
The way he said “door” made my stomach turn. Combined with his greasy smile and flushed face, I knew exactly what type of man he was.A sex-crazed piece of shit who harassed women.
My security team had changed after last night’s incident. Most of these guards came from the Bloodbane Pack. Several knew Diana personally, since she always acted sweet and approachable in public.
Diana turned to me with that fake smile she’d been wearing all day. “Evelyn, we’re all family now. Your uncle took time off work just to see you. Why don’t you let him come in and sit down for a few minutes?”
Her brother immediately held up a gift box. “Yes, yes! Your uncle brought you supplements to help you recover. All the good stuff!”
I couldn’t help but smile at their performance. This man’s intentions were so obvious he might as well have worn a sign. Yet here he was, pretending to be the caring uncle while his eyes told a completely different story.
“Who said I wanted to be family with you?” I asked coolly. “I have parents and relatives. If you want to claim family ties with them, you should go ask them in person.”
My voice stayed calm and distant. I watched their expressions change as my words sank in.
“How can you be so rude?” the man snapped back angrily. “My brother-in-law was the former Alpha of the Bloodbane Pack. I was trying to elevate your status, and you don’t even appreciate it. No wonder Calvin dumped you after the mating.”
Diana sighed dramatically. “Randy, don’t talk to Evelyn like that. She’s still recovering from yesterday’s trauma. I don’t blame her for being upset.”
I couldn’t hold back anymore. A genuine laugh escaped me, filling the hospital room.
“You two are almost a hundred years old combined,” I said. “How can your thinking still be so childish?”
Diana and her brother froze, speechless.
“The brother-in-law you’re bragging about is my sons’ biological grandfather. What do you think he can do for me?”
I stared toward the doorway, letting my anger show. The man took a step back under my gaze.
“Adopting someone as a daughter isn’t just about whether they’re suitable,” I continued. “It’s also about whether you yourself are qualified.”
My expression turned cold as I looked directly at Diana.
“Evelyn!” Diana snapped, her voice shaking with rage.
She struggled to control herself when she noticed my security team watching and a doctor passing by in the hallway. Her eyes were bloodshot with barely contained fury.
“There’s one more thing,” I said, studying Diana carefully. “The decision to go to the pack house with the kids last night was only made yesterday morning. How could Liri have known about it?”
I leaned forward in my wheelchair, ignoring the pain in my side. “And the timing of the ambush was perfect, as if someone had tipped them off.”
Diana visibly shrank back from my stare. Her stiff posture gave away her nerves.
Even Randy at the door fell silent, avoiding my eyes completely.
“Clara was also present at the scene I added deliberately.
Diana’s breathing stopped when she heard that name. I watched her carefully as she pretended to know nothing.
“It’s possible that the servants at the pack house leaked the information,” she suggested weakly. “Since you were coming, they would prepare food in advance. Perhaps someone was bribed.”
Her panic was obvious. I had already made up my mind about her involvement.
“Really?” I asked.
Even sitting in a wheelchair, I knew I had control of this room. Years of being underestimated had taught me how to command respect.
“In that case, I must remind Calvin to thoroughly investigate everyone in the pack house,” I said casually. “Phone calls, bank transfers, personal relationships. We can’t let anyone slip through the net.”
My voice dropped lower, carrying a clear warning. Diana’s face went pale as guilt and fear took over her expression.
Randy kept shooting Diana meaningful looks from the doorway, clearly urging her to bring up something about Evelink Biosciences, but she was too distracted to notice his hints.
When he tried to step inside, my bodyguard immediately blocked him, leaving him frustrated and powerless.
I turned my wheelchair, glanced at Diana, and said to my security team, “Show her out.”
Two bodyguards immediately stepped forward, gesturing for Diana to leave.
I could have slapped her right then and there. But more than immediate satisfaction, I enjoyed watching her squirm, like a cat playing with a mouse, watching it scramble nervously, constantly looking over its shoulder.
I’d always been better at playing the long game than throwing punches.
“Diana, about that lab Randy started to speak, but Diana pulled him away. Right now, she clearly didn’t care about whatever lab access she’d been angling for. Her position within the Bloodbane Pack was hanging by a thread.
She probably regretted working with Clara now. If she had known Clara would be so incompetent, she wouldn’t have gotten into this mess, getting outplayed by someone she thought was beneath her.
“Wait a minute,” I called out, stopping them.
Randy’s eyes lit up, thinking I had changed my mind, but all he heard was,
“Take this soup container with you.”
Before leaving, he looked me up and down in a way that made me want to vomit. His half-closed eyes were full of disgusting thoughts.
The malice in his eyes was unmistakable. I’d deal with him later.
Once the ward was quiet again, I immediately took out my phone and texted Jackson. “Check on Diana and Randy, dig deep.”
Over the next few days, Diana tried to visit twice more. My security team turned her away both times. She didn’t realize that I had only let her in the first time to confirm my suspicions about her tipping off Clara.
After Rowan and Rhys recovered, Calvin took them home. I was discharged after spending more than a week in the hospital.
During this time, I arranged for my housekeeper to prepare three meals a day for Leon. I’d been wracking my brain trying to figure out how to treat his leg condition.
Finally, I thought of a possible solution.
