A faint, sardonic smile tugged at the corner of Tristan Davis’s mouth before he turned away, saying nothing more.
The same detectives handling Emily Blair’s kidnapping and Alex White’s car accident were now assigned to Matthew Ross’s case. With one “accident” after another, it was clear these weren’t just coincidences-they were deliberate. The police were taking it seriously; they’d already brought in the truck driver from the crash for questioning.
Matthew Ross’s evidence had been processed and submitted. If Tristan’s
calculations were right, the police were probably already en route to arrest Isabella Austin.
That meant Andrew Lane didn’t have much time left to sit comfortably.
Tristan leaned his head back against the wall and closed his eyes. Anyone who dared to lay a hand on Emily Blair—no matter who they were he would remember. And he would settle the score.

Benjamin Gomez returned home and received the news the moment he stepped inside: [The police are on their way.]
A glint of stubborn determination flickered in his eyes. [Understood,] he replied.
He pushed open the door. As he bent down in the entryway to take off his shoes, footsteps approached.
“Benjamin.”
“Daddy!”
Ashley Gomez, his little girl, hurtled into his arms, wrapping herself around his neck. Her voice was soft and sweet. “Daddy, you’re home!”
Benjamin gently stroked the back of her head, nodding. “Yeah, I’m home.”
He glanced over at Isabella Austin. She stood in the living room in comfortable loungewear, watching him with anxious, gentle eyes. Her lips pressed together, betraying her nervousness.
Benjamin freed one hand to ruffle her hair, then offered a quiet laugh and exchanged a few words with Ashley.
All the while, Isabella waited-silent but anxious-until Benjamin finally set Ashley down. Unable to hold it in any longer, she blurted, “Benjamin, what did you talk about with Andrew?”
He didn’t answer right away. Instead, he asked the nanny to take Ashley to play in another room.
Now it was just the two of them in the living room.
For reasons she couldn’t quite name, Isabella’s unease grew.
Benjamin paused, his expression unreadable, before he spoke softly: “Don’t worry. I promised you I wouldn’t say anything to anyone, and I haven’t mentioned you to Andrew Lane.”
But Isabella’s worries ran deeper. She pressed on, “What about Matthew Ross? It’s been days has it been resolved?”
She wanted Benjamin to comfort her like he used to, to assure her everything was under control and she had nothing to fear.
But the reassurance never came.
Instead, Benjamin’s brow furrowed. He seemed troubled, unable to give her an
answer.
A chill crept through Isabella. She grabbed his hand, her voice trembling. “Benjamin, what’s wrong? Why won’t you say anything?”
He squeezed her hand, looking pained, and finally sighed. “Isabella

He lifted his gaze, eyes full of regret. “We need to leave. Now.”
Isabella’s face drained of color. “What do you mean?”
Benjamin’s frown deepened, as if he were facing something impossible.
She’d only seen him like this once before the day she’d broken things off with him,
when he realized there was nothing he could do to change her mind.
Her anxiety spiked. “Benjamin, please. Tell me what’s going on.”
He dropped his eyes, gripping her hand tightly, struggling for words. “I’m sorry. I’ve failed you.”
She bit her lip, her voice barely steady. “Is this about Matthew Ross?”
Benjamin let out a weary sigh and nodded. His voice was barely above a whisper. “This time…I can’t fix it.”
The shock hit Isabella like a thunderclap. She went completely pale, her fingers digging into his hand. “What did you say?!”
Benjamin spoke quietly. “I just found out. Matthew Ross changed his mind at the last minute he handed over evidence of your involvement. The police have already sorted through it, and word is, they’ve secured a warrant for your arrest.”
