The store assistant quickly reassured her, “Don’t worry, these clothes are all picked out according to Ms. Blair’s measurements-there won’t be any mistakes. If
anything doesn’t fit after you try them on, just give us a call. We’ll come by to collect the returns and process a refund.”
Emma George looked genuinely surprised. “That’s amazing service!”
The assistant smiled warmly. “Of course.”
After all, with a customer this important, they’d be crazy not to treat her like royalty. Today’s sales alone would probably cover an entire month’s quota.
Emily Blair motioned for the assistant to continue showing the rest. With only half the clothes left, she wanted to get this over with quickly.
As the “battle” finally died down, Elizabeth Wilson immediately pulled Emma George aside and lowered her voice.
“Auntie, you’re setting Emily Blair up on blind dates, but what about Tristan Davis?”
Elizabeth and Tristan had been friends for years, and everyone knew where Tristan’s heart lay. “We both know how Tristan feels. If he finds out Emily’s being set up with someone else, who knows what’ll happen.”
Emma glanced at Emily, then sighed helplessly. “I asked her—if she likes Tristan, I’ll go talk to him, maybe help them get together. But she told me herself she doesn’t. Since she isn’t interested, it’s best to be decisive and not drag things out. That’s why I’m introducing her to other people.”
Elizabeth stared at her, eyebrow raised. “Emily said that herself? She doesn’t like Tristan Davis? Seriously?”
After all these years, watching the two of them together, it never seemed like Emily was indifferent to Tristan. They were always exchanging looks, clearly a good match.
Emma nodded. “Yes. Would I make that up?”
Elizabeth sucked in a sharp breath. Poor Tristan, she thought. Her heart ached for her friend.
She shook her head with regret. “In that case, there’s nothing we can really do.”
Emma considered for a moment before saying seriously, “Tristan’s a good guy. I feel like we should find the right time to have an honest talk with him. He deserves to know, so he doesn’t waste his time.”
“Say what, exactly?” Elizabeth asked.
“Just tell him Emily isn’t interested, so he shouldn’t keep waiting around,” Emma answered.
Elizabeth grimaced. “I couldn’t say that to him.”
Telling Tristan Davis he and Emily Blair were never going to happen? He’d probably block her on every platform and never speak to her again.
Emma jerked her chin in Emily’s direction. “Then let Emily tell him. She’s the one who got into this mess; she should clean it up.”
Elizabeth hesitated, then said, “Auntie, honestly, I don’t think Emily even knows Tristan likes her… And even if we can see how Tristan feels, he’s never confessed to her. How would she even bring it up?”
Emma’s worry deepened. “Then what should we do?”
Elizabeth squeezed her shoulder. “Honestly, maybe we should just stay out of it.
Who knows—maybe things will change later. If we meddle now, they might both end up resenting us for interfering.”
Emma nodded. “You’re right.”
Meanwhile, Emily Blair had finished making her selections. She’d chosen enough clothes to fill three racks—an impressive haul that left the shop assistants positively beaming as they started packing up the rest.
Emily pulled out her credit card. “I’ll take these.”
The assistant took the card with a bright smile, swiped it, and handed it back.
The way Emily paid—so confident and nonchalant—made Elizabeth laugh. “Look at you, boss lady.”
Emily let out a short, amused snort. “That’s me.”
