Ivy reached out and tapped Madge lightly on the head. “I’ve noticed you don’t listen to me much lately.”

Madge grinned. “I’m just trying to give you two some private time.”

“We don’t need private time,” Ivy said quickly.

Madge rested her chin on her hand. “That’s not what it looked like a while ago. You were practically glued together. Now, something’s off. I can feel it.”

Was it that obvious?

“I honestly think Mr. Lowe is into you,” Madge said.

“He’s into me?” Ivy let out a dry laugh. “You’ve got to be kidding. He doesn’t. We’re in a business marriage. Feelings aren’t necessary.”

Madge raised a brow. “If he didn’t have feelings for you at all, how did you end up pregnant?”

Ivy paused.

They had been happy in bed. That part had never been a lie.

“I still think you two could go back to how things were,” Madge said. “You used to cling to him, act cute, lean on him. He liked that. Can’t you tell he falls for it every time?”

Did he?

Back then, she had done all of that because she wanted a baby. Now that she was pregnant, she felt awkward doing it again.

Madge went on, “Men like Mr. Lowe, they’re proud. Confident. You’ve got to be the one who reaches up and pulls him down. Once a guy like that steps off his pedestal and into your hands, he’s not going anywhere.”

She glanced at Ivy’s stomach and smiled.

“And you’re carrying the Lowe family’s heir. Trust me, he’ll listen to you.”

“I…” Ivy hesitated.

“First figure out what you actually want,” Madge said gently. “Once you know that, everything else gets easier.”

Ivy went quiet.
What did she want?

She wanted a real life with Nathan.
Yes, their marriage had started as an arrangement.

But Nathan had everything. The family name. The sharp mind. The kind of face and build that stood out in any room.
Men like him didn’t come around twice. Ivy knew that better than anyone.

Nathan was the best she could ever hope for. If she lost him, she would never find someone better

And now that he had refused to divorce her, she wanted to really try and make it work. If he could become a good father, their baby could grow up in a warm, complete home.

The thought made her chest tighten. Suddenly, it was clear. She needed to hold on to him.
Just like she had clung to him when she was trying to get pregnant. This time, she would hold on for real.

“Mr. Lowe already took the first step,” Madge said softly. “He didn’t leave He didn’t walk away from you or the baby.

Now, it’s your turn.”  He had taken a step toward her.

Even after finding out she had lied, even after everything, he hadn’t asked for a divorce. He hadn’t rejected the baby. That mattered.
Ivy felt the weight in her chest lift a little.

“Well?” Madge asked. “You know what to do now?”
A small smile curved on Ivy’s lips. “Yeah. Nathan is the biggest support my baby and I have. I need to hold on to him.” Madge laughed. “That’s more like it. Honestly, if you just crooked your finger at him, he’d come running. Go get him, girl!”
