Chapter 1441
Chapter 1440:
Raymond seethed inwardly, barely managing to contain his frustration. Adah should have become part of the Shaw family, and yet she was on the verge of joining the Evans instead. A bitter regret pressed against his chest. Even so, that feeling paled compared to the torment of watching Ruben flaunt his victory. He had always been bested by the man in their youth, and now history seemed to be repeating itself — his own grandson was about to lose to Ruben’s. It was a humiliation he felt impossible to forget.
The ache in his chest was so intense it seemed ready to burst. Had it not been for his iron resolve not to give Ruben the pleasure of watching him crumble, he would have reached for his heart medication immediately.
While Raymond’s expression darkened with frustration, Ruben was practically euphoric. Then something seemed to cross his mind, and he shot to his feet, striding directly toward Elliana.
Ruben was determined to demand an explanation. After all, she had insisted he abandon all hope, assuring him that Adah would undoubtedly marry someone from the Shaw family. Yet what he saw before him told an entirely different story — from the very start, Adah had shown a clear preference for Lance. Ruben was convinced that Elliana had deliberately led him astray.
Raymond watched him walk away without understanding what was happening, but he couldn’t help releasing a deep sigh of relief. That respite, however, was short-lived, as it quickly gave way to fury when he turned toward those beside him.
His first target was Eleanor Shaw, Allan’s mother. “Because of you, our family lost an extraordinary girl. This is all your fault p>
The sudden outburst made Eleanor take a step back. She let out a nervous laugh and exclaimed. “Raymond, how can you blame me for this? Allan and Adah never got along from the very beginning. And you were the one who approved breaking off the engagement! I didn’t say a single word the entire time p>
The old man scoffed. “Don’t try to fool me just because I’m in my golden years. You thought Adah was too ordinary for Allan and pulled strings behind my back to push her out, didn’t you? Admit it p>
Eleanor’s mouth snapped shut, unable to mount any defense. Although the years had slowed Raymond’s step, his mind remained as sharp as ever. He had clearly uncovered her scheme — offering Adah money so that she would be the one to end the relationship.
He pressed on. “Adah didn’t leave Allan simply because the boy didn’t know how to appreciate her. She must have been terrified at the thought of having you as a mother-in-law! And look at her now! A rising star, about to become part of the Evans family. Do you regret it? Do you wish you hadn’t acted so carelessly p>

Eleanor’s head dropped, her cheeks burning with shame. Of course she regretted it — she had cursed her own lack of foresight over and over again. If she had known the kind of woman Adah would become, she never would have schemed to separate her from Allan. But dwelling on it now only left a bitter taste in her mouth.
Raymond, having vented his anger at her, didn’t stop there. “And the rest of you aren’t innocent either! Your coldness made Adah feel unwelcome — that’s why she refused to join this family p>
The members of the Shaw family lowered their gazes, staring at their shoes, not daring to respond. Still stung by Ruben’s earlier mockery, Raymond was ready to lash out at anyone who dared talk back. Whoever spoke up would walk straight into the line of fire.
While Raymond unleashed his fury on the others, Ruben tracked down Elliana. He approached her with his face flushed with indignation. “Elliana! You owe me an explanation p>
