Mom, I’m Grown Up
No matter what, she had to take this trip.

When she got off work in the afternoon, Tang Yuchen came with Kangkang to pick her up.
Seeing him again, Wen Jing was now certain that he was pursuing An Ruo. When she was leaving, she whispered in her ear with a low chuckle, “Sister An, I think he’s a good person. You should hold on to him.”
An Ruo just smiled. She had held onto him before, more than once. Yet each time, other matters had pulled them apart.
“Mom, Dad said he’ll take us to dinner. Let’s hurry, I’m hungry,” Kangkang said, tugging at Tang Yuchen with one hand and her with the other, his head tilted up and his words filled with innocence.
“Alright, let’s go eat,” An Ruo smiled back at him.
Tang Yuchen looked at her with a smile, but she just glanced at him faintly, not daring to meet his gaze directly.
They went for Chinese food, where you had to place the napkin on your lap during the meal. An Ruo tried to place a napkin for Kangkang, but the little guy shook his head, refusing her help.
“Mom, I’ve grown up. I can do it myself.”
“Alright then, little Mr. Independent. Go ahead,” An Ruo said indulgently with a smile, thinking he was just keen on the novelty of doing it himself.
During the meal, she helped Kangkang with his food, and he also helped her, “Mom, eat up. You don’t need to take care of me; I’m grown up. I can pick my own food.”
An Ruo looked at him, pursed her lips, and smiled without saying a word.
Children like to act grown-up, and she understood that very well.
After the meal, without her having to say anything, Kangkang went to wash his hands in the restroom on his own, very conscientiously. Tang Yuchen suggested that they go for a walk instead of rushing home.
Kangkang raised his hand in agreement, and An Ruo thought that it would be better for the child’s physical and mental development to walk more outdoors.
Always staying home with her and not going out would only make him increasingly introverted.
So, she agreed to go for a walk. After a full meal, a stroll could also help with weight loss. They walked a long distance along the seaside, with Kangkang playing along the way.
With a child around, the atmosphere was not silent but rather lively.
After walking for over an hour and noticing the little guy was tired, An Ruo wanted to carry him back, but Kangkang shook his head, “Mom, I’ve grown up. I don’t need Mom to carry me. I can walk by myself.”
“Kangkang, Mom understands what you’re thinking, but you’re already tired. If you’re too tired, you shouldn’t force yourself. It will be very exhausting,” she replied.
Still, Kangkang shook his head: “Mom, I really can walk back by myself.”
An Ruo frowned slightly; he was clearly so tired, walking very slowly, so why insist on walking by himself?
Tang Yuchen noticed the worry in her eyes and picked up the little guy, smiling at him, “Let Dad carry you back. In front of Dad, you can be a child forever.”
Kangkang’s eyes brightened as he looked at him, and he shyly smiled, wrapping his small arms around his neck, no longer insisting on walking by himself.
An Ruo breathed a sigh of relief and felt moved by Tang Yuchen’s fatherly love for Kangkang.
Back at home, Kangkang bathed himself and then came out to announce in front of them, “Dad, Mom, I’ve grown up. So, I’ve decided that starting tonight, I’ll sleep by myself.”
Upon hearing this, Tang Yuchen immediately asked him back, “If you sleep by yourself, then where will Dad sleep?”
