Better Go See the Dentist

Tang Yuchen always liked eating the dumplings she made. If she made them for him, he could probably taste that they were her cooking. Everyone’s dumplings have different appearances, portions, seasonings, and so they taste different too.
She didn’t know if he could tell the dumplings were hers, but she still couldn’t take that risk.
An Ruo shook her head and said, “My dumplings don’t taste good. I better not make them.”
Han Xiaofen didn’t insist either. She waved at her with a bright smile, “Then I’ll go first, goodbye.”
“Goodbye.”
Watching her light and joyful steps, An Ruo felt a bit envious of her youth. Being young is wonderful, life is filled with beauty every day.
Unfortunately, her youth was nearly over before she even had a chance to savor its brilliance.
At night, everyone returned to their bedrooms to sleep. An Ruo couldn’t sleep, so she got up intending to get some milk from the kitchen.
She walked into the living room and saw the kitchen light was on; it seemed someone was inside.
In front of the fridge, Kangkang, wearing pajamas, was standing on a small stool. He took out a bottle of milk and was about to get down when he saw An Ruo standing at the door.
“Aunt Ruo’an, you’re not asleep yet?” he asked her in surprise.
An Ruo smiled and said, “Are you hungry?”
The little guy smiled shyly.
Half an hour later, An Ruo came out carrying some freshly made lean pork and century egg congee. She served a bowl and handed it to Kangkang, who was sitting properly.
“Eat up, the congee is overcooked because I didn’t simmer it on low heat, so it might not taste great.” It was nighttime and she didn’t have time to slowly stew the congee for him, fearing it would affect his sleep.
Kangkang smelled it and flashed an innocent and cute smile, “Aunt Ruo’an, you’re being modest. The congee smells great, it must taste good.”
“If it tastes good, eat more.”
“Okay.” The little guy nodded vigorously and picked up his spoon to eat.
Even though he was very hungry, he still chewed slowly instead of wolfing it down. An Ruo asked him with concern, “Does your tooth hurt a lot?”
“A little. How did you know my tooth hurts?” Kangkang wasn’t slow to react.
“You’re hungry at this hour because you didn’t eat enough during the day. Plus, I heard your tooth hurts so much that you don’t want to eat. I just saw you take only milk and nothing else, which means you can’t eat other things. Does your tooth really hurt? Let’s go to the hospital for a check-up tomorrow.” As she spoke, An Ruo became increasingly worried, wishing she could take him to the dentist right away.
Kangkang shook his head, “It’s not that painful, it’s just a little twinge sometimes, especially when I’m eating.”
“Let’s see the dentist tomorrow,” An Ruo continued to suggest.
“Not tomorrow. Tomorrow is Dad’s birthday. I want to celebrate his birthday at home. Let’s go in a couple of days. I’m fine.”
“But you can’t eat.” An Ruo said anxiously, “You’re at a growing age, you can’t go hungry.”
The little guy’s eyes lit up with mischief, and he smiled, “Aunt Ruo’an, how about you cook congee for me every day so I won’t be hungry.”
“You can’t eat congee every day. If your teeth are bad, you need to treat them, don’t let the cavities get worse.” An Ruo couldn’t help but scold him with a parent’s tone.
Kangkang didn’t get upset. He suddenly asked her, “Aunt Ruo’an, do you have kids?”
An Ruo was stunned, “Why do you ask?”
