Yvette, Madeline, and Ginny all recognized the name displayed on the caller ID. It was indeed Leander.
They had left the bar three hours earlier. In that time, anything could have transpired. Yet, Leander chose this exact moment to reach out.
“Is it really possible that Leander can still call? ”
Ginny expressed disbelief. In her mind, she imagined that Tobias‘ men had severely beaten up Leander and likely thrown him in jail. Alternatively, Leander might have met a more violent end with his body thrown into the river. How could Leander possibly have the strength to make a phone call?
Yvette’s eyes darted around with urgency as she insistently said, “Madeline, answer it now. Maybe Leander is calling for assistance, or perhaps they plan to release him and are reaching out to negotiate p>
Madeline quickly complied, answering the call, and switching it to speaker mode so her friends could listen in.
“Hello? Is this Leander p>
Madeline’s voice quivered.
“Yes, it is me, Madeline. I am at home and noticed you are not here, so I called to find out where you are p>
Leander’s voice sounded steady and composed, showing no indication that he was injured. It was as if nothing untoward had happened.
“What? You are home p>
Madeline’s surprise was evident. Yvette and Ginny exchanged bewildered glances.
“Leander, are you all right? They did not harm you, did they p>
Madeline continued to probe.
“Harm me?” Leander softly chuckled. “Do not worry, I am perfectly fine. There’s nothing to be afraid of p>
At that moment, disbelief washed over Yvette, Madeline, and Ginny.

Most people would avoid offending Tobias at all costs. Yet, Leander had openly confronted him, even injuring him in the process. In normal circumstances, it was uncertain whether he could leave Shade Bar alive that night.
However, from the tone of Leander’s voice, it sounded as if he had emerged unscathed. He was even back in his apartment. How could this be possible?
When had Tobias, the notorious boss of the North District known for his vengeful nature, become so accommodating?

Leander let out another chuckle.
“Ah!” Madeline snapped back to reality and replied, “I am with Yvette and Ginny. We are at Yvette’s house. Since you are home, I will return soon p>
“Yvette’s house p>
Leander casually continued, “Very well. I will head over to pick you up. It is quite late, and it is unsafe for you to be alone.
“I’ll call you when I get there p>
Leander abruptly ended the call after that, leaving Yvette, Madeline, and Ginny in a state of confusion.
“I must have misheard. Leander is genuinely fine. How can that be p>
Ginny’s disbelief was apparent.
While Madeline hoped for Leander’s well–being, she could not shake her confusion. Given the ruthless nature of Tobias and his gang, how could they possibly have allowed Leander to leave unscathed?
Yvette furrowed her brow, equally perplexed. Even if Linden had crossed Tobias, it would have been improbable for the matter to be resolved without injuries. Surely, there had to be a cost. It was simply implausible for Leander to escape from Tobias and his men without consequences.
“Could it be that Leander defeated all of Tobias‘ men and then fled p>
Ginny rested her chin on her hand as she wondered.
“Impossible!” Yvette shook her head. “Even if Leander is strong enough to defeat all of Tobias‘ men and escape, he should be in hiding to avoid attracting attention. He wouldn’t dare to come over just to pick up Madeline, right? Latest content published on.net

Yvette lowered her head in thought, but the answer eluded her.

Ginny suddenly exclaimed, as if struck by a realization.

“He must have caved in and groveled after we left. Perhaps he even agreed to some excessive conditions, which is why Tobias allowed him to leave p>
Her hypothesis sounded true to Yvette and Madeline, and they nodded in agreement. This seemed the most likely explanation.
Someone like Tobias, a ruthless underworld boss, knew how to manipulate others. Leander’s fighting skills might have led him to become coerced into serving as Tobias‘ enforcer, explaining why he was allowed to depart.
Even so, they could imagine that when Leander yielded, Tobias‘ crew made sure to humiliate him before letting him go.
As Madeline reflected on this possibility, she felt a pang of sorrow. She believed that Leander’s violent clash with Tobias that night stemmed from her actions.
Yvette sighed. While she disapproved of Leander’s methods and his self–righteous demeanor, she could not help but empathize. Being forced to grovel to Tobias‘ group was a possibility that disheartened her.
Raw power could not compete with wealth and influence. Regardless of one’s pride, one had to bow to those with more wealth and power. This was the harsh truth of reality.
Unbeknownst to them, all of their guesses were mere fantasies. They could not fathom that Leander not only did not yield to Tobias but had also driven Tobias, the boss of the North District, out of Ravenridge with a single statement.
Half an hour later, Leander arrived at the Sitwell Residence. Yvette’s parents had already retired for the night, and Yvette and Ginny were at the door to see Madeline off.
Leander stood outside on the lawn, dressed in casual clothing. His expression remained neutral, and he bore no injuries or signs of humiliation.
Yet, the more Madeline observed Leander, the more discomfort washed over her. She believed he must have endured immense humiliation and had ultimately been compelled to compromise with Tobias to return unscathed.

“Suffer?” Leander appeared slightly taken aback but quickly understood what was going on. She believed he had suffered at the hands of Tobias.
However, he chose not to clarify and simply smiled before turning to Yvette.
“Thank you for helping me take Madeline away tonight p>
Leander gratefully nodded to Yvette. After all, it was not yet the time for Madeline to learn the truth. Had Yvette not intervened, Madeline would have found out everything about him.
“There is no need to thank me. Madeline is my dear friend, and I feel responsible for her safety p>
Yvette shook her head, then asked with some concern, “Are you truly okay p>
“I am fine p>
Leander dismissively waved his hand. “You two should go to sleep. I will take Madeline home p>
After stating that, he prepared to leave with Madeline. At that moment, however, Yvette stepped forward and called out to Leander.
“Leander, please wait a moment p>
Yvette hurried a few steps, positioning herself at the villa’s entrance.
“I have a few things to discuss with you p>
Leander glanced at Madeline before approaching Yvette,
“Is there something on your mind p>
Leander’s indifferent tone made Yvette frown. Her voice grew colder.
“Leander, I know you share an apartment with Madeline. You have known her for ten years and see yourself as her older brother, wanting to protect her.
“That is why I feel it is necessary to remind you of a few things p>
Yvette turned to face Leander, lowering her voice but still speaking in a firm and decisive
manner.

“I understand you are strong and proud. However, I hope you can sometimes put that pride aside and reflect on how to effectively engage with those around you. Think about how to nurture relationships and seize opportunities.
“Sometimes, you should carefully think about the consequences of your actions.
“At dinner in my home today, Colin extended his hand to shake yours, yet you did not shake his hand. You did not take it seriously.
“Do you know who Colin is? He is the heir of Brightstorm Holdings, and his father is Jasper Bright, the chairman of that company.
“His offer of a handshake indicated his desire to get to know you. It was a good opportunity for you. Getting to know him may not guarantee your future success, but at the very least, it opens a door for you. You might need his assistance with certain matters down the line.

Yvette continued, saying, “Furthermore, at the Shade Bar tonight, I was the one who brought Ginny and Madeline there. A few drinks would have diffused the situation.
“However, you perceived Madeline as wronged and immediately confronted Tobias, even injuring him. Do you think such behavior is appropriate?
“I understand you care for Madeline and don’t want to see her hurt. Still, you need to be aware of the time and place. You know better than I do just what price you had to pay for tonight. That is the consequence of your recklessness p>
She spoke as if she was a wise elder imparting her wisdom. In a heavy voice, she continued, “Leander, it’s good to have pride in oneself, but that does not mean you can do whatever you want. When you act tough when going against someone you can’t fight, that is no longer being confident or brave. It’s foolishness! It’s ignorant stupidity!
“In this world, money and connections are the true keys to survival. You can only protect Madeline when you have those. You can’t just live in your own world and do everything yourself p>
She was telling Leander all this so that he would understand that wealth and power were the most important parts of life. She had hoped it would push him into being more careful and changing his ways, becoming more adaptable.
In her mind, Leander would understand that from her speech. However, the look in his eyes never changed at all. In fact, there was even a mocking smirk on his lips.
“Are you done?” Leander blandly asked and shook his head.
