Even the security cameras couldn’t find a trace—the two of them had vanished from the hospital without a sound.
Most likely, whoever did this knew the hospital inside out. They hadn’t left a single clue behind.
If Elodie hadn’t been alert, she might have been completely blindsided, left in the dark about the whole thing.
Elodie closed her eyes. She couldn’t accept it—absolutely not. Even if she ever considered ending the pregnancy, there was no way she’d let it happen like this.
“I know I work at this hospital, but you have my word-the administration has been extremely cooperative. I don’t think they knew anything about it. The director said if there’s any fault on the hospital’s side, they won’t shirk responsibility. The problem is, whoever did this was too cunning, so we haven’t found any real weak spots yet.” Elias understood exactly how Elodie felt.
That’s why he laid everything out so plainly for her.
He’d even spoken with the hospital’s senior management on behalf of the Warwick family.
The administration had agreed to cooperate fully with the investigation, but on one condition: until the truth came out, everything had to remain quiet-no public statements, no disruptions to hospital operations. If word got out too soon, the fallout could be huge.
Elias could understand that. Without concrete evidence, it wasn’t fair to drag the entire hospital down.
Elodie knew Elias had already done more than enough for her. Her voice was hoarse as she swallowed. “Thank you. I know this is a lot.”
Elias’s voice softened. “There will be news soon. But for now, we need to focus on your health. We can schedule the procedure as soon as possible.”
The ordeal had left Elodie physically and emotionally battered. The way she’d nearly lost the baby had been reckless and dangerous, and it had only made things worse. It had increased the risks for her upcoming surgery.
Elodie nodded. “All right, Dr. Warwick. Please go ahead and schedule it. I should be free in about two weeks.”
Elias was quiet for a moment before his gentle voice came through. “Elodie, don’t be afraid. I’ll do everything I can.”
She was still so young-how could she not be scared?
Elodie knew Elias was meticulous and kind, gentle to his core. She took a deep breath. “Thank you.”
As for whether the surgery would go smoothly-who could say for sure? All she could do was stay strong.
After she hung up, Elodie glanced at her phone and saw the screenshot Esmeralda had sent, showing Sylvie’s profile picture.
She could only shake her head with a silent, bitter smile.

Fuming, Lily went back to her unfinished tasks.

Watts turned around. “Had to check some restricted files. And you?”
Lily gave a sheepish grin. “I’m starving. Heading to grab a bite so I can power through the rest of the night.”
Watts took in her disheveled bun and the exhausted look on her face-she looked like she was barely holding it together.
He glanced at his watch. “Perfect timing. I was just about to head over too.”
Lily’s eyes lit up. “Let me treat you, then.”
Watts raised an eyebrow. “Well, thanks.”
Lily snapped to attention and marched ahead. “Don’t mention it. I’m not losing out.”
“What was that?”
Lily didn’t answer.
It was her first time having a late-night meal alone with her secret crush, and to
her, that was reward enough.
