“Yeah, I give my portion to my wife,” he said.
Li Yao smiled triumphantly and gestured with her hand, her fingers beckoning impatiently. The Core, seeing no way to refuse, reluctantly produced another golden ball of energy and handed it to Li Yao. It then scurried to the Empress’s side for protection.
<That’s all I have! I can’t give you guys any more!> it pleaded.
Li Yao attempted to pass the golden energy ball to Xiang Yu, but it bounced back to her as if repelled by an invisible force, returning to rest in her palm.
[No need to try. It won’t work,] the Empress spoke.
[Heavenly merit is something the world awards to its locals. It would be really bad if outsiders colonized low-level worlds to mine heavenly merit and upgrade their talents limitlessly.] She explained.
Li Yao nodded in understanding, but quickly countered, “But Senior Brother isn’t an outsider.”
[Well, the world decides who’s an outsider and who’s not,] the Empress replied.
Li Yao glared daggers at the World Core, causing it to shrink further behind the Empress. the Core thought.
[It’s not the world’s fault,] the Empress continued. [Your Senior Brother has a unique constitution that makes him invisible to the Heavenly Dao. That’s probably why you can’t sense his cultivation. Similarly, the world can’t sense his presence, so it can’t acknowledge him.]
The World Core quickly nodded in agreement, grateful for the Empress’s intervention.
“Invisible to the Heavenly Dao? That’s so cool!” Li Yao exclaimed, staring at Xiang Yu with sparkling eyes. She placed a hand on her chin thoughtfully. “Is there a way to make it invisible to all women?” she wondered aloud.
[You do know that includes you, right?] the Empress asked, raising an eyebrow.
“Ah,” Li Yao facepalmed.
“Is there a way to become a man? Asking for a friend”
Xiang Yu, having reached his limit with her antics, flicked her on the forehead.
“Ouch!” she squeaked, covering the spot with her hands.
Xiang Yu felt the Empress’s explanation made sense. The system seemed to hide him from the Heavenly Dao, but he hadn’t possessed the system before his transmigration, or had he? Perhaps it had always existed inside him and simply awakened when he regained his memories.
But why would it do that? Did it need something from his previous life’s memories? Who created the system, and what was its ultimate goal?
Considering these questions, he could only sigh internally. He would likely never understand the system’s true intentions. Whatever they were, he hoped it wasn’t targeting him specifically, though that seemed unlikely, he had been just a normal guy before, hardly worth targeting.
The closest explanation he could conceive was that the system was grooming him for some top-secret, high-level mission. He sincerely hoped this wasn’t the case; he had no desire to be entangled in some ongoing eternal war.
Pushing these concerns aside, he turned his attention back to Li Yao. “What are you going to do with the merit?” he asked.
The Empress stretched out her hand, and the golden orbs of merit floated toward her.
[I’ll keep it for now,] she declared.
[This amount isn’t enough to upgrade the root to the celestial grade, and using it merely for cultivation would be wasteful. After saving the world, you’ll have enough, and we can use it then.]
Xiang Yu’s mouth fell open in astonishment. “Celestial grade root?” he thought to himself. “Damn, what’s my sacred grade worth compared to that?”
