“Eat breakfast before you head out,” Bryan said, aware that Eileen had an important meeting today. He had woken up early just to make breakfast for her. “Not sure if it’s a stomach issue, but keep an eye on it for now.” Bryan approached Eileen, carrying a glass of milk and some toasted bread.
Eileen accepted the breakfast. The milk was perfectly warm, and the toast wasn’t greasy at all—just the way she liked it. She finished the milk quickly and took a crunchy bite of the toast, her eyes showing surprise and contentment. Although the weather outside was chilly, she felt she was not afraid of the cold after eating.
Once she was done eating, she gave Bryan a quick kiss on the cheek when he wasn’t looking and then swiftly left the house. Bryan couldn’t help but smile.
At the EB Group, Eileen was deep into a meeting, while Raymond patiently waited for her. Suddenly, the phone in Raymond’s pocket vibrated. He frowned and paused for a second. Noticing that Eileen was engrossed in her work, he quietly stepped out of the room.
His work phone had been muted, and it was his personal phone that was buzzing. His aging parents lived in a high-end neighborhood in Onaland, arranged by him. He had hired a caretaker for them and left his private number with the caretaker, just in case. Worried that something might have happened to his parents, he quickly checked his phone, only to find out it was his sister, Luella Brooks, calling him.
“Raymond, you’ve got to help me now. I’ve hit someone!” Luella’s voice was frantic.
“Where are you right now?” Raymond asked, feeling resigned and frustrated.
He and his sister didn’t come from wealth, but he had earned good money since graduating and working for Bryan. His parents’ lives had greatly improved, but his sister had grown spoiled and entitled. It had been a year since she graduated, and yet, she hadn’t secured a proper job. He was still financially supporting her. Lately, she had taken it too far, overspending recklessly, blowing through tens of thousands a month.

“I rented a car and was just going out for a drive, but I hit someone!” Luella said. “Stop talking and get here fast. They’re all young and strong. What if they want to beat me up?”
Raymond didn’t even have the chance to respond before Luella abruptly hung up. Then, she sent him her location. Raymond immediately contacted the police, asking a trusted officer to look into the situation. Given Raymond’s connection to Bryan, the officer didn’t hesitate and assured him that he would follow up after handling the matter.
After that, Raymond made his way back to the meeting room. However, his mind kept drifting off, a nagging sense of dread creeping in. Roughly thirty minutes passed, and finally, the meeting came to an end.
Eileen gathered the documents, stood up, and made her way toward the door. Before leaving, she glanced at Raymond and asked, “Something wrong?”
“No,” Raymond replied instinctively. Then, he sighed and admitted, “Actually, there is an issue about my family.”
“If you’ve got something to take care of, go ahead,” Eileen said, pausing to glance at her watch. “It’s nearly time for lunch. You’re good to leave.”
Raymond clasped his hands together in gratitude. “Thank you. I’ll do my best to repay this kindness in the future…”
Eileen said, “So, why don’t you start by telling me what happened with you and Bryan in the parking lot that day?”
Before Eileen could finish, Raymond quickly interjected, “Actually, there’s no need for me to leave. I think I’ll just stick around and keep working.”
