The person quickly answered, “It gets complicated once the baby is born. If there’s an investigation, I could be in trouble. So… can you pay more?”
“More money? You even mishandled the job, and you’re asking for more? I have records of our deals and conversations. If you care about your reputation, you better sort this out!” Presley warned, clearly in control.
The person sounded frightened, staying quiet for a moment before replying, “I can’t do this by myself. I need your help. If you expose me, you’ll get dragged down too. We need to cooperate.”
Not wanting further issues and doubting the person’s ability to handle the situation alone, Presley reluctantly agreed to collaborate.
Three days later, at ten in the morning, the media reported, based on information from the doctors, that a well-known individual had undergone a C-section, but the baby was in poor health and had been transferred to the neonatal intensive care unit.
Due to the prominent status of the family, the baby received VIP treatment with dedicated nursing care.
That evening, the assigned nurse momentarily left to assist elsewhere, gone for no more than five minutes.
In her absence, a woman clad in a doctor’s coat quietly entered, her gaze fixed on the tiny figure in the crib.
The dim room light, combined with the moonlight shining through the window, caused the knife she held to flash menacingly.
Suddenly, she drove the knife down into the crib! A thud sounded, and warm liquid sprayed out.
“Stay still!” “Freeze!” A team burst into the room at that moment. Caught unprepared, Presley shielded her eyes from the harsh light flooding the room.
Her hands were smeared with fresh blood, emitting a strong odor.
“Presley!” Eileen stepped into the room from outside, her eyes cold as she stared at Presley, whose hands dripped with blood.
Regaining her composure, Presley saw Eileen and Bryan come in. Despair gripped her, but she burst into mocking laughter. “You’re too late! You think you’re so capable, yet you couldn’t even protect your own baby. What a farce!”
Bryan had orchestrated the trap, and Eileen had suspected Presley was the intended target.
However, she hadn’t anticipated Presley’s extreme measures.
Seeing the knife plunge into the crib filled Eileen with fury.
Presley’s smug words and grin only intensified her anger.
Eileen stepped forward and slapped Presley sharply. “You’re a mother too. How can you be so cruel? You’re despicable!”
As she moved, her dress swirled around her, revealing her high, swollen belly to Presley.
Stunned by the slap or perhaps shocked by the sight of Eileen’s belly, Presley stood there, covering her face, speechless. “No… You…”
Bryan moved to shield Eileen, wary of another attack from Presley. “Get her out of here!” he commanded, and the police quickly restrained Presley.
She hurried to the crib and yanked away the blood-soaked sheets, only to find a punctured blood bag and a small pillow underneath. “Come with us!” The police handcuffed Presley and forcefully led her away while she remained in a daze.
Presley received a death sentence for her attempt on the infant’s life.
Her guilt was swiftly established, and the sentence was passed.
Now more than eight months pregnant, Eileen felt a sense of relief when she learned of Presley’s sentence.
She was free at last, though her body felt too heavy to move.
Her feet were swollen, and the doctor confirmed the baby was progressing well, recommending early hospitalization for a C-section at thirty-eight weeks.
Thus, Eileen found herself back in the hospital once more.
The VIP ward had been upgraded and expanded with additional rooms. Ruby and Gabriela stayed there too.
They waited for seven days until the evening before Eileen was scheduled for surgery.
“Mommy, is the baby coming out tomorrow?” Gabriela asked as she lay on the hospital bed, peering at Eileen’s belly for a moment. “Where will the baby come out from?”
Eileen’s swollen belly obscured her view, so she could only touch the scar on her lower abdomen.
“The doctor will make an incision in my belly to take the baby out.”
Gabriela looked down and noticed the scar on Eileen’s lower abdomen. “How did you get this scar?”
