Julio chuckled at her hurried explanation. “I’m not blaming you. I just wondered why you were at the hospital. Are you okay?”
A thought crossed his mind, and he quickly added, “You’re not pregnant again, are you?”
If she were pregnant again, she’d be out of commission for months. Where would he find another capable employee like her?
“No,” Eileen shook her head. “I took Bryan for a check-up.”
Julio sighed in relief. “Thank God. If you’re planning on a second child, give me a heads-up so I can mentally prepare.”
“Not anytime soon,” Eileen replied with a slight frown. “Morning sickness was rough when I was pregnant with Gabriela. I’m a bit scared of going through that again.”
But she didn’t completely rule out the possibility of having another child.
Morning sickness? Julio’s mind flashed back to the scene at the club’s lounge where Dalores was hugging a trash can, retching. He frowned but didn’t continue the conversation.
The elevator doors opened, and several executives were waiting outside. They quickly switched to business mode and began the meeting.
Eileen hadn’t anticipated that the company’s emergency would be about her. Because she had taken over Trenton’s club yesterday, rumors spread like wildfire, accusing her of using her body to get ahead.
Most people believed the rumors. Otherwise, they couldn’t comprehend how Eileen, once an assistant, could have risen to become the general manager of Freguson Group.
