“I did some digging online,” Christos confessed, as if reading her thoughts. “You were once an assistant at Apex Group, right under the former CEO. You used to date him. Now, Zola works at Apex and is the wife chosen by his family. That puts you at odds, doesn’t it?”
All these details were publicly available for those who looked hard enough, and Christos had clearly taken the time to connect the dots.
“Did I get it right?” Christos pressed, noticing Eileen’s prolonged silence.
Eileen snapped out of her thoughts and met Christos’ earnest gaze. “It’s not about being right. I handle my issues myself. You shouldn’t get involved. Just go home.”
Christos’ expression shifted to one of disappointment as he leaned in closer. “I just saw Zola leaving with some man. They were talking about the general manager at Freguson Group being better than her. You are aware of what she’s up to, right?”
Eileen knew all too well Zola’s penchant for underhanded tactics. She always presented a composed front to Eileen while scheming behind her back.
“But they’re gone now, and you don’t know where they went,” Eileen pointed out, hesitant to pull Christos deeper into her professional drama.
Undeterred, Christos pulled out his phone, displaying a map with a blinking dot. “I placed a magnetic tracker on their car. They’re at a hotel nearby. Let’s check it out!”
He strode toward the passenger side of Eileen’s car, but the door remained locked.
“I’ll handle this myself. You should head home,” Eileen insisted, signaling for him to step away from the car.
After a moment, Christos reluctantly backed off, stuffing his hands into his jacket pockets. “Alright, but please be careful.”
Eileen thanked him, slid into her car, and drove off toward the location.
Fortunately, the hotel was under the Freguson Group, making it somewhat safer for her to venture alone.
The staff at Freguson Group’s properties were quite familiar with their new general manager. They had diligently researched every aspect of Eileen’s background, right down to her appearance. Although Eileen had a longstanding tenure with Freguson Group, this was her first visit to this particular property.
As soon as Eileen entered the lobby, recognition sparked among the employees, and she was quickly greeted with warmth and professionalism.
“Good evening, Ms. Curtis,” said two receptionists, accompanied by security guards and other personnel, all converging around her.
“Hello,” Eileen replied, slightly taken aback by the swift attention.
“Ms. Curtis, are you here for an inspection? Where would you like to start? I can get the manager on the line right away,” one eager receptionist offered, holding a phone in hand.
