But Bryan answered for her, “They’re up to something. If you go, be ready for anything.”
“You already know?” Eileen asked, setting her phone aside and lying on the bed, her face resting on Bryan’s chest. She propped her head up with her hand and looked at him. “I’m ready, but I’m not going alone.”
She planned to bring Raymond, and Julio would be there too.
Before she could continue, Bryan suddenly pulled her close, drawing her into his embrace. His body pressed down on hers, and his gaze became intense.
“Who are you bringing?” Bryan raised an eyebrow, clearly displeased. “Am I some sort of embarrassment? Think I’m too ugly to be seen with? Huh?”
What kind of nonsense was this? Eileen was at a loss for words, her eyes widening under Bryan’s piercing stare.
“Who were you talking to in the car?” Bryan’s voice was almost a growl, their noses nearly touching.
Instinctively, Eileen blurted out, “No one.”
She wasn’t ready to reveal that she had given Roderick a million dollars.
To outsiders, the bond between Eileen and Roderick could seem inexplicable, especially after years of separation and the involvement of Judie and Ruby.
Her denial only fueled Bryan’s frustration.
Bryan’s lips fell to bite Eileen’s chin, causing her to yelp.
The sound was quickly silenced by a forceful kiss, as Bryan’s possessiveness surged, leaving no room for explanation.
His rational side, however, remembered their sleeping baby nearby. Instead of taking her to the bathroom, he carried Eileen to the study.
Eileen thought Bryan had grown tired of that particular place.
Pressed against the cold, hard desk with their fingers intertwined, Eileen realized this was just the beginning of the real punishment.
“Am I ugly?” Bryan asked, his voice rough.
Almost laughing, Eileen replied, “I never said you were ugly.”
She didn’t want Bryan to leave, but she was concerned that his previous authoritative demeanor might be compromised.
“Then do I look good?” Bryan pressed, still not satisfied.
“You look fantastic, no matter what!” Eileen’s response made Bryan’s heart flutter with joy.
Even if Bryan was bald, he was still handsome. Their features seemed perfectly matched, as if crafted by the gods themselves.
