Bryan’s expression immediately darkened. “Then there’s nothing left to discuss,” he said, preparing to stand and leave.
Zola leapt to her feet, stopping him. “I’ve adored you for years. Since I joined the Dawson family, I’ve devoted myself to you. Why can’t you accept me? I was here before Eileen ever was!”
Her outburst was met only with a cold, icy stare from Bryan, his eyes fixed on her hand clutching his arm. He spoke sharply, “Let go.”
“While you were with her, she stayed with you because of her stepmother. I understand your sympathy for her, but why can’t you show any for me?” Tears flowed freely down her cheeks as she held her ground. “My life hasn’t been any easier than hers. At home, I was always overlooked. You know what I’ve endured since joining the Dawson family!”
Bryan shook off her grip, his voice cold and firm. “I pity you, but not her. I love her, and I’m going to help her rise above her circumstances. You should stop wasting your time on people who just pity you. Find someone who can truly help you.”
Someone who could help her?
Zola wanted to say that no one could help her. But then, images of Kian flashed in her mind. He had always been there, offering to rescue her from the chaos surrounding the Dawson family.
But she didn’t love Kian.
Now, because of Kian, she was engulfed in misery.
She and Eileen weren’t so different after all. And now… Eileen had taken everything from her.
This realization reverberated in Zola’s mind, refusing to fade.
Her eyes gradually clouded with sorrow, and her voice broke slightly. “Alright, I understand. My love for you over the last decade means nothing to you. Don’t worry. I won’t cling to you any longer. But you’ll regret this.”
Travis’ biological father’s scheme was cruel.
Yet, Zola kept quiet about it, eager to see how Bryan would protect Eileen.
As Bryan walked away, a new plan began to form in Zola’s mind.
Once back in her car, she quickly dialed a number. “Dariel, I’m ready to fully engage with your project. Please tell your boss I’ll be his most devoted and effective aide.”
“Oh? My boss will be delighted to hear that, Miss Murray. From now on, consider yourself part of our team,” Dariel replied.
Zola responded, “I’m pleased to join the team. About that ‘lab rat’ you mentioned earlier, I have a few ideas I’d like to discuss…”
“Go ahead. I’ll make sure my boss hears them. He appreciates fresh perspectives.” Dariel’s tone remained amiable.
