But then Jillian said, “We need to sort things out with our families quickly. Otherwise, we’ll be waiting around for another half hour.”
“Alright,” Huey replied, thinking of Bailee, who was waiting. He pulled out his phone and walked over to the water fountain near the entrance.
Just as he was about to make a call, something bumped his elbow, causing his phone to slip from his grasp and fall into the water.
The phone’s screen flickered twice before going dark.
“Damn!” Huey exclaimed, rolling up his sleeve to grab the phone. Just then, a security guard quickly stepped in.
“Sir, the pool is 1.5 meters deep at its deepest point. You can’t just dive in.”
Huey’s foot was already soaked as the guard yanked him back, his anxiety rising. “I’m way taller than 1.5 meters!” he retorted angrily.
The guard shifted uncomfortably. “Even so, it’s not safe.”
“You could lose your footing and drown.”
By then, the guard had called for help to retrieve the phone.
Jillian, witnessing this, smirked and spoke into her phone. “Dad, just go to the other restaurant like I suggested. We’ll be there soon.”
After ending the call, she walked over to Huey. “My dad says they’ve changed the location last minute, and your folks have already headed there. We should go now.”
“But my phone is still in the water,” Huey said, clearly frustrated by the slow rescue operation.
His phone contained critical competition data and meticulously gathered videos; losing it would be a major setback.
“Why not let them mail it to your place once they retrieve it? Waiting here could take forever,” Jillian suggested, pulling out a pen and paper. “Where do you live? Maybe leave a backup number.”
“You don’t need to know that. Just don’t get in my way,” Huey snapped, pushing her aside. He then turned to the staff, his tone urgent. “Hurry up, or my phone will be ruined! What’s the point of getting it back then?”
If the motherboard wasn’t damaged, he might still be able to recover the data by taking it to a repair shop.
The staff quickly stepped up their efforts, and after a while, they successfully retrieved the phone. They suggested, “Our restaurant has a hairdryer. We can open the phone and dry it thoroughly.”
“Okay,” Huey replied, following the staff member back into the restaurant to find the hairdryer.
Jillian glanced upstairs, a flicker of light in her eyes, before signaling to a waiter.
The restaurant’s private dining rooms were well soundproofed. Unaware of the events outside, Bailee was absorbed in her phone, handling some work issues.
Suddenly, a knock at the door caught her attention.
