Chapter 504
Bryan raised his eyebrows and said seriously, “It took you this long to notice that I still don’t have an official status?”
So, he had been hinting all along with his constant reminders, and she hadn’t realized?
“Why don’t you just say things directly?” Eileen complained.
“Can everything really be said directly?” Bryan retorted.
Eileen found it obvious. “Of course! We should be clear and open. There’s no need for secrecy or subtle hints.”
Bryan pressed his lips together, stopping at a traffic light. His dark eyes caught the reflection of the red light and, bluntly, he said, “So, when your period ends, I can—”
“Shut up!” Eileen cut him off sharply before he could finish.
Bryan wisely chose silence. When the light turned green, he started the car again. “That’s why some things are better left unsaid.”
Eileen saw through his attempt to shift the topic. Bryan didn’t genuinely care about Judie’s attitude. He had accompanied Eileen tonight solely for her benefit. His friendly conversation with Roderick was because of his good relationship with Eileen and the gift Roderick had prepared for Gabriela. He had discreetly assessed the solid gold lock, noting that Roderick had opted for the most expensive option.
Though he wasn’t bothered, Bryan had still played his cards well, leveraging Eileen’s discomfort with Judie’s preferential treatment and taking advantage of it. Despite everything, he recognized that Eileen had been under a lot of stress from work recently, so he hadn’t kept her up too late.
A bit sleepy, Eileen said, “I’ll reorganize my schedule tomorrow. Then, we can make time to get remarried.”
“Okay,” Bryan replied, holding her close, his chest against her back, warm and soft.
The following day, as Eileen was on her way to work, Bryan made plans to take Gabriela out. He told Eileen that he had arranged to meet Josue at the mall, bringing Jacob along since Phoebe’s birthday was approaching, and Jacob wanted to pick out a present for her.
Eileen didn’t call out his excuse for showing off his daughter and drove off to work.
As she left the residential area, Eileen briefly caught sight of a familiar figure in the corner of her vision. It was fleeting, and by the time she looked again, she wasn’t sure if she had seen it correctly. Dismissing it as a mistake, she drove on.
Meanwhile, Bryan secured Gabriela in her car seat and left.
Ruby sighed as she surveyed the empty house. Will I even get to see Gabriela again?
Considering Bryan’s current routine, it seemed likely he’d take Gabriela out every day. Feeling restless alone at home, Ruby thought about messaging Bailee but decided against it, assuming Bailee was busy as well. She grabbed a jacket and decided to head to the nearby supermarket to pick up ingredients for a nice meal.
Denise, who had earlier claimed a stomachache to avoid helping at the restaurant, was loitering outside the neighborhood. She eyed the grand villa with envy. As Denise thought about how to enter, she spotted Ruby, dressed in clearly expensive attire.
Denise quickly moved to intercept her, blocking Ruby’s path.
