Chapter 529
Ruby barely had time to exchange pleasantries when the unexpected sound of screeching tires filled the air. A van barreled into the community, shattering the tranquility of the moment.
The security guard, quick to react, pulled out his stun gun and sternly commanded the driver to stop.
Several more guards emerged from the security post, ready to intervene.
Ruby, sensing the imminent danger, hurriedly maneuvered Gabriela to the safety of the sidewalk, her heart pounding with fear.
To her shock, the van was speeding directly toward her.
It charged through about eight guards, sending a few soaring through the air before it turned and blocked Ruby’s way.
In a desperate move, Ruby scooped up Gabriela, ready to flee, but her plans were thwarted when a large man stepped out of the van and blocked her path, his demand chilling.
“Hand over the child!”
The man’s hand was a stark contrast against Gabriela’s tender pink outfit as he grabbed at her clothing.
Ruby glanced back and saw several others inside the van.
One of them was leaning out, gun in hand, shooting at the approaching guards.
Echoes of gunfire resonated through the air. Gabriela, overwhelmed by the chaos, broke into sobs, her small hands clinging desperately to Ruby’s attire as tears stained her flushed cheeks.
“You’re not fit to look after her! I’ll come with you!” Surrounded with no escape in sight, Ruby adamantly refused to relinquish the child to these ruthless men.
Eileen had asked her to take care of Gabriela, and she needed to protect her.
The man, losing patience, forcefully grabbed Ruby’s arm, yanking her into the van.
Inside, the sight of five men wielding firearms sent shivers down Ruby’s spine.
Holding Gabriela close, she steeled herself against the fear that threatened to overwhelm her.
The van then accelerated abruptly, darting out of the neighborhood like a fleeing arrow, leaving behind a trail of incapacitated guards at the entrance.
Nestled at the base of the mountain lay a police station. As soon as the alarm blared, roadblocks sprang up, forming a formidable barrier.
Eileen’s eyelid twitched uncontrollably as the press conference drew to a close, but she shrugged it off.
Bryan noticed her discomfort and stepped in to field the questions concerning EB Group.
When the event wrapped up and journalists swarmed for more comments, Bryan quickly shielded Eileen and escorted her out.
