Chapter 530
Inside the elevator, he let go of her arm and looked at her with concern. “What’s going on? You seem off.”
“It’s just my eyelid twitching. Maybe it’s telling me that taking over EB Group is a bad idea,” Eileen said with a light chuckle, massaging her eyelid.
Bryan smiled gently, his attention lingering on the elevator’s ascent until they reached the top floor.
“I put together your office. I chose the desk and chairs to suit your taste,” he said, holding Eileen’s hand as they walked into the office. Sunlight streamed through the expansive floor-to-ceiling windows, filling the room with a bright glow around noon.
The sprawling view of Onaland’s cityscape stretched out before them.
But just as Eileen started to take in the view, her personal phone rang. The unfamiliar number on the caller ID brought a rush of anxiety to her heart.
“Hello, is this Miss Curtis? We’re calling from the security service. There’s been a breach at your residence. A van forced entry, and your mother and daughter have been taken hostage by individuals from the van…”
Eileen couldn’t clearly hear the rest. As her throat constricted, she cast a desperate glance at Bryan, gesturing frantically towards the phone, her voice lost.
Bryan reacted quickly, grabbing the phone and switching it to speaker mode, just as the caller clearly delivered the message again.
Eileen stood transfixed, the dreadful news of Gabriela and Ruby’s abduction overwhelming her thoughts.
This was no mere robbery. The assailants had bulldozed through the guards with lethal indifference and captured Gabriela.
As Raymond steered the car, Bryan called the police and then swiftly dialed Josue. “What exactly brought your ex-wife’s brother here?”
“He…” Josue began to echo his earlier explanation, but Bryan’s grave tone halted him mid-sentence, signaling that something bad had happened.
He exclaimed, “Damn it! I’ll ask him again!” He quickly dialed Dewitt’s number. Dewitt picked up immediately.
Josue asked, “Why exactly have you come here? Have you deceived me, you scoundrel?”
The air crackled with tension on Dewitt’s end.
A cacophony of foreign languages filled the air.
Dewitt simply reassured Josue, “Relax, your friend will be okay.”
“Fucking hell, I’ll kill you!” Josue swore angrily, but the call ended before he could finish.
Josue was furious and worried. He stared at his phone, unsure of what to tell Bryan.
He didn’t know what Bryan was facing, and every second counted.
He eventually called Bryan, his jaw clenched. The phone rang twice before Bryan answered.
Josue said, “He lied before. You—”
