Luckily, Ruby had gone along, or Gabriela might have been even more scared, and worse things could have happened at the hands of those men.
“All I could think about was keeping Gabriela safe. I didn’t have time to be scared. But now, the more I think about it, the more terrified I become,” Ruby sighed, sinking into the sofa, looking utterly drained.
Her energy had dissipated, and now, even at home, her legs felt weak.
In the silent living room, the two adults kept a watchful eye on Gabriela, falling into a heavy silence.
Though life seemed to have gone back to normal, their fear lingered. They wouldn’t be able to shake off the fear for a while.
Eileen hadn’t gone to her office for two days.
Meanwhile, Bryan kept busy. He had Raymond continue searching for Coen, while Josue kept him updated on the raids at Coen’s hideouts.
Coen’s island housed several labs that shipped products globally.
A newly developed drug had been seized by international police for analysis.
Those involved in its creation were detained for investigation.
The analysis of the drug and news of Coen’s location reached Bryan at the same time.
After informing Eileen, Bryan went to see Josue, who almost cried when he saw Bryan.
“I’m not dead. Why are you crying?” Bryan said calmly, his lean figure relaxed yet marked by a touch of seriousness. “Get to the point.”
Josue sat next to him. “Don’t panic. The efficacy of this drug is still uncertain. Even if it’s effective, researchers are already working on an antidote. There will be a solution!”
Bryan tightened his jaw, his expression stern as he faced Josue. “Stop wasting time. Cut to the chase.”
Raymond had been called in by Bryan to personally report on Coen’s location.
When he entered, Josue was off to one side, fidgeting as though he was occupied with something.
“Where is he?” A cigarette dangled from Bryan’s thin lips as he fixed Raymond with an impassive stare.
Approaching swiftly, Raymond leaned in and whispered something to Bryan. Then, he straightened up and said, “However, Coen’s base was raided, and we’ve lost track of where he went after taking the helicopter.”
Coen had already had a precise plan and destination for his escape.
“As for Mr. Wright…” Raymond hesitated, reading Bryan’s expression. “He shared this information reluctantly and hopes you’ll keep your word not to reveal his connection to Coen.”
A cold intensity flickered in Bryan’s eyes as he thought about Coen’s escape and the details Josue had mentioned about the drug.
He rested his forehead against his hand, lost in thought.
