Business trips were a frequent occurrence in their lives, but Eileen usually traveled with Bryan.
However, with Gabriela here and the recent events, Eileen couldn’t leave home now.
As she packed, a deep sense of loss overwhelmed her.
Sitting on the floor after placing the last item, she looked up at Bryan. “Should Gabriela and I come with you?”
“No,” Bryan answered decisively.
“Why not?” Eileen countered. “Gabriela is unsettled, but she calms down when I’m with her.”
And she felt more at ease when Bryan was near.
The prospect of Bryan being away for several days filled Eileen with a sense of emptiness.
Bryan leaned closer, gazing at Eileen. “Look after Gabriela. Make sure you’re both okay, and that will give me peace of mind.”
“Alright.” Eileen held back further objections. Though reluctant, she knew the journey would be too much for Gabriela.
The flight was scheduled for nine in the evening, which was still a few hours away.
But Bryan still felt the time was too short.
He watched Eileen move around, putting things away, her reluctance evident in the constant reminders she gave him.
Bryan felt a deep ache in his heart.
He held back from saying too much, fearing he might lose control of his emotions.
Yet, when Eileen sat beside him and grasped his arm, he couldn’t hold back any longer.
He drew her close and kissed her passionately, his cold lips meeting her warm ones.
The kiss was intense, conveying his reluctance to leave.
He wrapped his arms tightly around her.
His chilly fingers traced beneath her clothes, sending a shiver of electricity through her.
“Eileen, will you miss me?” Bryan pulled back slightly, gently rubbing his nose against hers.
Tears welled up in Eileen’s eyes as she nodded. “Yes, I will. Gabriela will miss you, too.”
A tightness gripped Bryan’s throat as he managed a smile. “The ache of missing someone can be bearable.
Don’t just stay indoors doing nothing. Focus more on the joyful moments.”
“But you are the one who brings me joy.” Eileen wrapped her arms around his neck, looked up, and kissed him softly on the lips. “If I miss you, I’ll just call you. I don’t need anything else to be happy.”
