The next day, after picking up the team of doctors Raymond had arranged at the airport, Eileen headed straight to Bayside Hospital.
The ward door was open, and several nurses were inside, cleaning.
The sight of the empty bed made Eileen’s legs give way, nearly causing her to collapse.
It seemed Josue had anticipated this. He caught Eileen just in time. Eileen pushed him away and asked one of the nurses,
“Excuse me, the patient in bed No. 9…”
“He has been discharged,” the nurse replied calmly.
Biting her lip, Eileen turned to Josue.
Josue raised his hands defensively. “I swear, I really don’t know anything this time.”
“Arrange for the medical team to settle in.”
With that, Eileen turned to investigate the detailed records from the hospital.
Although Bryan had lost his memory, the details of his hospitalization and discharge had been meticulously recorded.
Jacob drove the car, while Josue sat in the passenger seat, taking Eileen to a fishing village on the coast.
Throughout the journey, Josue kept glancing back at Eileen in the rear seat.
She appeared calm, her eyes closed, resting.
After several glances, Josue couldn’t help but ask, “Don’t you want to ask something?”
“Will you tell me the truth?” Eileen replied.
“I’ll try my best,” Josue answered.
Eileen opened her eyes and asked, “How was he saved?”
“A fisherwoman found him at sea and rescued him. Since Bryan was dressed in fine clothes and looked distinguished, the fisherwoman thought she could make a fortune by saving him, so she spent a lot of money getting him to the hospital,” Josue explained.
Eileen sneered, “Let’s see if you’d still look distinguished after falling from the sky. Would you bet a hundred million on it?”
Her eyes were so intense that Josue couldn’t meet her gaze.
He turned helplessly to Jacob and asked, “How about you say something?”
Jacob, who had been driving in silence, finally spoke. “You can’t imagine how impoverished the people in that village are.”
Eileen sighed and fell silent.
Because the fishing village was so remote, it took them about an hour to arrive.
The village was so small that its boundaries were visible at a glance.
Eileen approached a group of middle-aged women weaving fishing nets by the roadside and asked, “A few months ago, a fisherwoman saved a man here. Do you know who she is?”
