Chapter 714
Her provocation thoroughly infuriated Roderick. Determined, he slapped her across the face. He then shoved her onto the sofa, pointed at her nose, and said, “Enough! I want to know where you got the money to buy the apartment. If you don’t tell me today, we’re done!” The slap left half of Judie’s face stinging.
Covering her face, Judie sat dazed for a moment before it dawned on her that Roderick, usually so compliant with her, had actually hit her. She looked up abruptly and saw Roderick’s eyes filled with anger, which instantly dampened her rage. Were they over? Was this a hint at divorce? Where would she find another man like Roderick?
“Roderick, hear me out. This was all your mother’s idea. I’ve been trying to talk her out of it!” Judie was scared, so she got up and wept as she explained, “Eileen’s real parents reached out to your mother. Your mother saw it as a missed opportunity if she didn’t make some money, so she demanded an apartment from them. Those people aren’t living well, and Eileen’s grandmother, on her deathbed, was desperate to see Eileen one last time. She continued with her usual story, claiming Eileen had become wealthy and that her relatives might try to take advantage of her.”
She went on, “She said Denise had asked her to find someone who could impersonate Eileen to meet the family.”
But now, the truth had come out. The person who had impersonated Eileen had been arrested. Since the apartment was in Denise’s name, the police had arrested Denise directly.
“You are so cruel!” Roderick shoved Judie. “You think everyone is as heartless as you? Eileen’s real grandmother is dying. She wants to see Eileen one last time. If she doesn’t, she might die with regret! How could you do this?”
Roderick’s push sent Judie tumbling to the floor. In shock, she stared at Roderick, who seemed like a different person now. She quickly defended herself. “Roderick, I’m not to blame. It’s your mother—”
“Enough!” Roderick cut her off. “My mother is nearly sixty. I’ve known her for almost thirty years. I know her well. The riskiest thing she ever did was take a loan from a loan shark, and even then, she was scared. She could never orchestrate such a scheme.”
He looked at Judie with disappointment. “I thought you were just bitter and greedy, but you’re actually malicious! Judie, just wait. We’ll get a divorce once my mother’s situation is sorted.”

Divorce?
The word hit Judie like a bolt from the blue. She collapsed to the floor. After Roderick left, she began crying loudly. The nanny had just managed to soothe the baby to sleep. When she heard Judie’s cries, she quickly descended the stairs to comfort her.
“Judie, stop crying. The baby just fell asleep. What’s so severe that you and your husband can’t discuss it calmly?” the nanny asked.
“He wants a divorce. He won’t discuss anything with me now!” Judie’s mind was in turmoil. How could she manage without Roderick? Returning to South Town to marry a divorced man would be her only option if she divorced him.
The nanny replied, “You two just welcomed your baby not long ago. How could he truly want a divorce? He’s probably just upset. Have a proper conversation with him when he returns. I’m sure he doesn’t really want a divorce.”
