“Did you finish your discussion with Judie?” Eileen asked, astonished to see Roderick come so quickly.
Roderick paused outside the door, reluctant to enter. His van was parked behind him. He said dejectedly, “I might need your help this time.”
Eileen’s brow furrowed. After a moment, she replied, “As long as the money is returned, take care of the rest.” She was willing to speak for Denise and suggest withdrawing the lawsuit. “But you must be cautious in the future. That apartment is tied to a large sum. If they can pull off such a scheme and get away with it, they might cause problems for you in the future.”
Yet, Roderick kept shaking his head. “It’s not about Mom. It’s Judie.”
He was hesitant to mention that Judie had orchestrated a scheme using Eileen’s real family. However, thinking of Denise, who was still in prison, he felt compelled to disclose everything.
“My family?” Eileen took a moment to process. “Did they come looking for me?”
“Yes, they mentioned that your grandmother is very sick and wants to see you one last time. Judie saw this as an opportunity to demand money,” Roderick replied.
Judie had assumed Eileen came from a wealthy family because she had a gold locket when she was a baby. Now, Eileen’s family was probably struggling, and they had scraped together two million dollars in hopes of bringing Eileen back to see her grandmother one last time.

Roderick found Judie’s behavior unacceptable. How could she do something so cruel?
Judie had taken two million dollars from the family and found someone to impersonate Eileen. The family was left penniless, unable to locate the real Eileen.
“Eileen, I don’t want this apartment. Sell it and give the money back to your parents. But our mother… I know she’s not your mother, but could you consider not suing her for my sake?” Roderick asked.
This was the first time Roderick had pleaded with Eileen. He spoke in a low voice, filled with embarrassment.
Eileen was still overwhelmed by the news that her biological parents had sought her out. Bryan, having soothed Gabriela to sleep, had descended the stairs and overheard the conversation between Eileen and Roderick. With a frown, Bryan approached and said to Eileen, “Resolving the police station issue is easy. You just need to decide whether or not to acknowledge your biological family.”
Roderick added, “I took Judie’s phone when I left. On my way here, I looked through the call log. There’s a number from another city. Judie has called this number several times recently. I think it might be your family. Do you want to call this number?”
