Dalores was taken aback.
“What? Hasn’t he gone back to Onaland?”
Eileen shook her head.
“No, he hasn’t left. Though he hasn’t reached out to me, he would surely inform me if he were leaving. Moreover, he’s here for a project; the matter hasn’t been settled yet.”
Eileen bit her lip and scanned the room anxiously.
She needed Kinsey’s approval to leave; otherwise, she would have departed immediately.
“There are so many people here. He might not even see you. It’s best if you don’t stay with Kinsey,” Eileen said. She had already warned Julio beforehand not to approach her at the event to start a conversation, and he would pretend they were strangers.
Thus, Dalores staying by her side wouldn’t increase the likelihood of running into Julio.
“Just saw Mr. Dawson. Gabriela has really grown! It’s wonderful that you both can bring her along wherever you go.”
Dalores had been eager to leave with her son. Unfortunately, her son was very young, and she lacked the financial means.
“Gabriela’s usually quite noisy. She’s calm right now because she doesn’t see me around. Otherwise, she would be causing a commotion trying to come to me,” Eileen shifted the conversation to their children, sparking a discussion about Gabriela and Dalores’ son.
Throughout the banquet, Eileen spent most of the time talking with Dalores.
Not far off, a man in his thirties, wearing a suit, observed them with a lecherous gaze.

As Jessica and Tami walked by him, Tami said, “That’s the woman sitting right there. I’ll double your payment once it’s done.”
“Don’t worry,” the man replied, swirling his glass, nearly spilling the wine due to his forceful motion.
Jessica scoffed at the sight. She quickly led Tami away and disappeared into the crowd, wary that the man might cause trouble that could implicate her.
Eileen was oblivious to the lurking dangers. She suddenly spotted Julio approaching.
What was worse, Julio was accompanied by Kinsey.
“Welcome, Mr. Walsh. A pleasure to speak with you. Let me introduce my wife, Dalores. She’s from Onaland as well. Perhaps we can dine together sometime,” Kinsey said, formally introducing Dalores to Julio without acknowledging Eileen.
Desperate to gain favor with Julio, Kinsey mentioned that Dalores was from Onaland as a conversation starter.
Dalores was taken aback, her gaze fixed on Julio. Julio’s face quickly turned cold.
“Dalores, what are you waiting for? Say hello to Mr. Walsh,” Kinsey signaled Dalores.
Dalores hesitated, about to rise, when Julio spoke up.
“Mr. Vazquez, are you sure she’s from Onaland?” Indeed, she wasn’t.
Dalores had come from a humble village background. Though Julio had brought her to Onaland ten years ago, she wasn’t originally from there.
Julio’s voice was frosty, and he wore a mocking smile.
