Eileen asked Raymond to keep Gabriela entertained in her room while she leaned against the window, observing Conroy’s residence.
The curtain in Conroy’s bedroom was partially drawn, allowing fleeting glimpses of a woman’s slender silhouette, though her face remained obscured.
Every time the woman was there, she hid herself perfectly, as if wary of prying eyes.
Hours passed in slow, heavy anticipation. By eleven, Eileen had put Gabriela to bed. She descended the stairs and found Raymond, who looked excited.
“It’s time,” she said.
Under the cover of night, they slipped out of the villa like shadows, creeping around to the back of Conroy’s place. With a quick, practiced motion, they shattered a window.
The crash echoed in the stillness, but the hour was late, and the residents slept on, oblivious to the sound.
A cold draft swept through the open window as Raymond tossed several aerosol bombs inside. In moments, smoke began to fill the villa—thick and suffocating.
Eileen bent down, picking up a small stone. She stepped back, calculating the distance, and then hurled it with precision at the bedroom window on the second floor.
The shattering glass roused Conroy, and the woman beside him was also startled awake. Their sleep-clouded minds barely registered the shouts from outside: “Fire! Help!”
Instinctively, Conroy grabbed the woman’s wrist, and they fled down the stairs and out of the villa. The woman was in Conroy’s arms, their matching pajamas offering little protection from the biting cold of the night.

Conroy’s heart sank when he saw Eileen; her gaze was locked on the woman in his arms.
“Dad, who is she?” Eileen asked.
The woman in Conroy’s embrace suddenly halted and pressed her face into his arms.
Silence hung in the air for a few seconds. Then, Conroy stammered, “Uh… Let me explain this to you—”
“There is nothing to explain,” Eileen interjected, circling them.
“You’re both in matching pajamas. That says it all.”
Conroy grew tense.
After circling them twice, Eileen stopped in front of them and declared, “You’re all grownups. I get it. Fine. Remember, I told Mr. Dawson you could remarry as long as you divorced my mother. The Vazquez family wouldn’t object, right?”
“I won’t divorce your mother,” Conroy replied firmly. “I’m your father, and your mother is my wife. That will never change!”
“You’re being unreasonable here. Holding one woman while your wife is in heaven. Who do you plan to be buried with? You want all three of you to end up in the same cemetery?” Eileen’s voice turned icy as she pulled the woman out of Conroy’s embrace.
Gianna stared at Eileen in shock, too stunned and nervous to respond.
“Auntie Gianna, how can you do this? Aren’t you ashamed to be with your brother-in-law?” Eileen’s mocking gaze made Gianna’s ears flush, but she was trembling from the cold in her light clothes, unable to say anything.
Conroy grunted and escorted Gianna toward the villa.
