“I refuse to answer when you ask me directly,” Bryan responded calmly. “Playing a game levels the playing field and spares Eileen the effort of trying to get your fake answer.” With a final tap on the table, he added, “Lie and you’ll be single forever.”
Julio was rendered momentarily speechless. Eventually, he spoke.
“I saw Kinsey at a bar recently with a woman in his arms. They later headed to a hotel together. He’s not a good husband for Dalores,” he said, his expression stormy as he spoke.
So, was Julio’s relentless pursuit of Dalores a way to gauge the depth of her feelings for Kinsey? Whether directly or indirectly, he was probably determined not to let Dalores remain in the shadows of Kinsey’s actions.
“Are you trying to seduce Dalores into cheating, so she would feel better about herself?” Eileen asked.
Julio responded with irritation. “I was trying to find a chance to warn her, but every time she sees me, she reacts defensively. In such a state, she doesn’t trust anything I say.”

Eileen quickly handed her a small snack. “Gabriela, be good and eat your snack.”

Fortunately, Julio, distracted, did not pick up on her words. The meal lasted just half an hour before Julio, having eaten his fill, excused himself.
